And that our obligation as a nursing facility is to encourage their civil rights, as we would do with respect to voting.” Reingold says that growing old is a process of loss: losing your friends, losing your spouse, losing your mobility, losing your memory. But the sense of touch is the last to go. How can we take something like this away from them?
Ultimately we need to be aware of the needs of the older generation. So much is taken away from them as they get older and there is nothing they can do about it but except it because it’s just a part of old age. From taking away their home, car, and ability to take care of themselves we cannot take away their sexual self. What we can do is learn more about it and try and help them enjoy the last years of their life any way that they can.
