Focuses on project flexibility
As described by Dr. David F. Rico, it is a “is lightweight, flexible, collaborative, and adaptable to frequent change, yet highly disciplined. This gives us the structure of the rational model from the last century along with the market and technological sensitivity to manage 21st century projects” (Rico, n.d., p. 1).

So what is Agile Project Management? As technology and the world around us are quickly evolving, so too is the world of project management. Changes in client demands and expectations have increased the need for flexibility during project development and our existing practice for project development is lacking in these abilities. Agile Project Management was created for this new era and focuses on flexibility throughout the project development process (Pinto, 2016). The best method takes the system already in place and integrating it with some of the Agile practices. We will see this most in the planning phase of the project development process. All information will be gathered as before, but now we must understand that this is the “initial intent” of the client, and it may not act as the final requirements (Wyss, 2014). As recommended during the 2014 PMI Global Congress Proceedings in Dubai, “these requirements are translated into user stories and filled into the product backlog” (Wyss, 2014, para. 12).

And of course the most important area is in the training of our teams. Teaching employees to change to a more collaborative environment will take some work. They will need to learn to seek out accomplishments and acknowledgment in a group setting instead of individually. But they can also have their thoughts and ideas heard more readily as they will no longer be just a cog in the machine.
