Recently, the media has caused many stereotypes due to portraying African American males playing feminine roles. This perspective depicts men of color wearing attire outside of the stereotypical sagging pants and oversized t-shirts. It depicts an educated man with social class and sophistication. To date, society holds African American men to rigid stereotypes and a high standard of masculinity. However, once a man of color steps outside societal stereotypes and into the perspective reflected by this new lens, far too often his own race rejects him on the grounds of not molding into the same rigid stereotypes that prevents his growth. Stripping the young man who adopts this new perspective of his ability to identify with his own race, society perpetuates the issue by stripping him of his right to masculinity as well. African American men must stop sabotaging themselves and learn to show support, encouragement and acceptance to all brothers despite any and all differences among blacks.
In America, there is an on-going debate in the black community with young, black homosexuals. African Americans are following a trend by accepting to wear women's clothing, which is not only harmful to them, but to the community as a whole. African American males are following trends of white liberals that disregard their traditional values. Dave Chappelle is an example of a black man that was oppressed to play a female role. In a movie, the writers of the movie begged Chappelle Dave over and over but he refused. They came back in a matter of minutes with a fully revised script, which Dave states, “It was impossible to do so fast unless they already had two versions of the script ready’ - they were prepared for him to turn down that scene” ( ...

African Americans are taking more actions, rather than words. Movie writers worldwide need to stop writing female scripts for African Americans. The media, such as movies and television in America is evidently filled with millions of different users and hidden information about who the actors really are. African American men must stop sabotaging themselves by not cross-dressing and should show support, encouragement and acceptance to all brothers despite any sexual orientation differences among blacks. Movies and television can either make African Americans hesitant to reveal their sexual orientation or it can advance their career. The masculinity of colored men is being supported by the media making it easier for them to freely express themselves.
