Do you remember the days when you would hear about a Canadian solider being killed in Afghanistan and the feelings of sorrow and sympathy for the soldier’s family that you felt. Do you think that those 158 soldiers died in an attempt towards creating a better future for Afghanistan and that the military should still stay there as a contribution to “world peace”. Well the fact is their lives were wasted, over the course of eleven years, we haven’t done many positive things grand scale of things in Afghanistan. Instead we have lost the lives of many Canadains and have blown billions of dollars and in exchange for very little success. Since we aren’t having much success were are just wasting soldiers in Afghanistan. Mainly because Afghanistan is country far form hopeless.
Firstly Afghanistan is seen as country of no hope due to all the corruption. Afghanistan has ranked the third most corrupt country form the whole world according to the Corruption perceptions index 2012 results just below North Korea and Somalia. All this corruption is the reason that the country is still going backwards even after the millions dollars it has been given in aid. “Pino Arlacchi, said a staggering 70-80 percent of the $34 billion in aid earmarked for Afghanistan since 2002 never reached the Afghan people due to corruption, waste and donors withholding funds.”( http://blogs.reuters.com). In Afghanistan’s defence they justified that most money was going towards the police and military but however the military is not fully ready proving that most money is going into the corrupts pockets. Another thing is that we were in Afghanistan to control opium production to lower the Taliban’s income but however Opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan reached a ...

...ings. This just proves that the country not improving as woman’s rights are worsening, destruction and civilian casualties are no the rise even with the Taliban power being overthrown, and support from many country just shows there not a lot of hope for Afghanistan.
As canadains we have done a lot for peacekeeping and for creating a brighter future for countrys, But Afghanistan is beyond us. How can we possibly help a country that is corrupt to the core with sight of improvement? Also how can we eliminate a group of terrorist dressed as a civilian without killing a civilian or losing a solider? Or build a country being constantly bomb shelled. Also after ten years of blood shed the country is still going backwards. So did we not just waste the live of the 158 Canadian soldiers? So should we delay the extraction of our military form Afghanistan Anymore?
The years since the Battle of Vimy Ridge may have passed quickly, but the legacy of the Canadians whose accomplishments were great in that pivotal First World War battle lives on. Many people claim to this day that Canada came of age as a country on those hard April days in 1917. At first, through the meticulous planning of the battle, the world saw a nation capable of working together and making decisions as a team. Afterwards, with the range of technical and tactical innovations involved in the attack, the world saw a strong nation unafraid to protect and defend. In the end, through great sacrifice the world bore witness to the birth of the Canadian legacy.
Nikiforuk’s article is written to argue a point and persuade the audience, non-specialist individuals, to his claim. There are many methods used to achieve this. Starting in the introduction Canada is glorified for what it used to be known for, then that image is quickly juxtaposed with the now dark and destabilized country because of the developing tar sands (Nikiforuk 211). This introduction, which uses pathos by using strong words to evoke negative e...
Smith, Gordon. “Canada in Afghanistan: Is it working?” Canadian Defence & Foreign Affairs Institute, 2007.
Approximately 620,000 Canadians fought during the First World War. Nearly 700,000 if we account for the men and women that enlisted in the Canadian units outside of the Canadian Expeditionary Force and in the British forces. Of which, almost 173,000 Canadians were wounded and about 67,000 Canadians had lost their lives by November 11th, 1918. These casualties were devastating in numbers. Canada needed to regain the good faith of its people, despite the fact that it was still a colony of Britain. Canadians knew very little about why the war had started, or the significance of the events that instigated it. But, Canadians were called upon to fight it, therefore now was the greatest need for there to be better compensation for our returning Veterans than ever before. This was the time when the ground work for the Veterans Assistance Programs of today was laid down. Of ...
...ore that 100 at this moment who have been deployed. At the end Canada has help all around the world to bring justice, and aid to those in need. Canada it’s seen as a peaceful nation and it has earn that title for all this work, and perseverance to make a better world by helping other nations with all this peace keeping missions.
...in reasons that most political violence occurs, and how to resolves these conflicts of political violence. After the research was completed, it is very apparent that Canada has had a very positive impact on Afghanistan. There are not many countries who would continue to stay in the country after completing their time in battle. Although Canada was involved in the war against Afghanistan, the country itself still found it mandatory for troops to continue to serve in Afghanistan as peace makers. Canada is known for peace and freedom and this exemplifies just that. Canada is putting forth time, effort, and money, to improve the living conditions of those in Afghanistan and helping them build a sustainable, peaceful life that they can carry out for years to come. Every country will have its own corruption; the answer is to begin from the basics. Peace and security.
In conclusion I have explained in detail the 3 main reasons why Canada is a good peacekeeper. I showed my knowledge through researching Canada’s daily participation, the financing they put in this force, and the future of Peacekeeping as it continues to grow. Canada puts a lot of effort, money, and time into being peacekeepers. This force is something to look forward to! As a Canadian it is setting an amazing reputation on our country and making the world a better place. Without Canada’s help the peace of today and the future wouldn’t be the same. Having Canada as a Peacekeeper is making the world become a much more peaceful and safe place for everybody.
In his essay “What We Are Fighting For”, Rex Murphy outlines reasons why Canadian army is fighting in Afghanistan. In the beginning, Murphy clearly states that Canada’s involvement in eliminating the Taliban Government was in retaliation for the 9/11 terrorist attacks to our ally, the United States, particularly because of those Canadian citizens who murdered in those attacks. According to Murphy, the international campaign to combat terrorism would be effective not only by eradicating the Taliban Government, but also by helping Afghan citizens in establishing a democratic state. Furthermore, Murphy explains that the Canadian army remains in Afghanistan to secure the peaceful democratic transition of power, as well as to assist Afghans with
...d the contributions of the Canadian government. Canada is not only distressed by domestic terrorism, but it is concerned with international terrorism. By creating a strategy to deal with terrorism, Canada is taking many steps to end terrorism. Also, through international collaborations and conventions, Canada has faith that the UN and its members will be able to end terrorism.
Canada has become a superior nation thru, perseverance, courage and even care as they persevered thru many dark battles, and made sure they all came thru together as a unit other than individuals. Their courage made there fighting 100% stronger as they wouldn’t back down to any task and they weren’t afraid to lose their life to help a fellow friend and country out. Care played a major aspect in each Canadian heart. There cared about Britain so they weren’t to go help them when they declared war, they helped other troops with their emotional problems and lastly they even cared a little about there enemies as they are the same person, however the only thing separating them is there culture. Canadians contributed in many ways to help our country's great efforts in the First World War.
...meframes and being subjected to arbitrary detention. Even after coming to Canada, the refugees must suffer under the healthcare system and fight for necessary medications. Canada is not doing all it can to help those who are in most need. The mass majority of the population of Canada does not understand the current laws in place regarding the refugees. These unfair, unreasonable and morally unaccepting laws must change to better the society of Canada. It is a country internationally known to be a peacekeeper, a friend, and a nation of many nationalities; called a mosaic for its accepting culture and diversity. Therefore, this cruel, discriminatory and immoral way of treating the refugees of the world is a disgrace and dishonour for the nation of Canada. Canada must improve to live up to the expectations of other countries and keep the dignity and pride of the nation.
What are Canada’s motives for helping out Afghanistan? Who will benefit from Canada going to war in Afghanistan? These are some of the questions many people have. While Canada has many domestic problems of its own such as homelessness, poverty and increasing national debt, why should Canada
The Kite Runner is the first novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. The novel is about a Pashtun fellow, Amir, who realizes his childhood mistakes and begins a journey to emend them. Hosseini commenced inditing the novel in 2001 while practicing medicine (source). Therefore, his cognizance regarding health care is limpidly reflected in the novel by his writing style, and the conflicts in the lives of characters. For instance, Ali, who is a servant in Amir’s house and his father’s childhood friend, suffers from congenital paralysis of lower facial muscles and polio. Author’s description of his leg as “twisted, atrophied …. sallow skin over bone with little in between except a paper- thin layer of muscle“ shows his deep knowledge about diseases and symptoms (10). Moreover, these conflicts not only have noticeable impact in the development of the plot but also reflect on the miserable condition of healthcare in Afghanistan. Amir’s mother die during childbirth reveals the pathetic status of neonatal care in Afghanistan. Amir witness several health related issues and consequences in the lives of other characters throughout the story. Thus, the author utilizes him to highlight important themes relative to health care in Afghanistan like maternal death, child mortality, disability, addiction due to excessive drug use and deformities. In essence, the novel prompts certain questions like “What factors are downsizing the population of afghanistan? What is the overall condition of hospitals and healthcare professionals? Why do women face health care crisis? What home remedies are available as a substitute for poor health care conditions and are they truly helping people to recover?” Thus, this research...
Afghanistan since its beginning has been a place of conflict, despair, and at times lost hope. It has been taken advantage of and lost its sense of identity, which has had a direct effect on its people, and there own sense of what justice truly is.
Ever since the Taliban took over they have been violating the rights of their people especially the women. If seen anywhere alone or uncovered the women get punished usually either getting beat or held captive. This is very common for the women in Afghanistan to experience. The Taliban uses the Islamic Koran book as their way of doing things. The Islamic Koran is a sacred book seen as almost like a bible. The Taliban interprets what they get out of this book into their way of life. However their interpretation of it is more of a punishing form for the women. The official name of Afghanistan is the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Afghanistan is known for its great quantity of natural resources such as coal, oil, gas, and extreme amount of opium. Twenty years of war has impacted Afghanistan dramatically, people hurt and dead due to all the war landmines women and children dying and girls prohibited from going to school (Strong). The Taliban is well known for causing chaos and destruction within their own territory. Threatening and making people fear them are their best tactics to get what they want. They even went as far as almost bombing the capital Kabul if the president did not surrender his forces against the Taliban (Kelley). We should care about Afghanistan because the Taliban uses various ways to violate the human rights of women in Afghanistan including rape, beatings, and the prohibiting of being able to go to school.
