The Affordable Healthcare Act

In 2010, President Obama passed the Affordable Healthcare Act, also known as Obama-care. Obama care it self is over twenty thousand pages long, and it may add six point two trillion dollars to the nation’s deficits. This act was made to allow everyone the opportunity to have health insurance, specially people who can not afford insurance on their own. However, instead of helping people afford health insurance, it forces people to buy insurance that might not be affordable for them based on their income. It also makes employers pay for their employee’s health care. That expense is covered by raising the prices of goods and services. Obamacare actually has a lot of out-of-pocket expenses as well. If you were to make 24,000 dollars a year, and have no health insurance your premiums would be brought down to below 7% of your income. If you were to have in accident your out-of-pocket could be 5,200 dollars. “That’s even with additional financial subsidies that the law provides people with modest incomes and high out-of-pocket costs.” (Under Obamacare, out-of-pocket leave some ‘underinsured’) Also, young and healthy people are usually not insured and usually only make minimum wage or slightly above. Since they are healthy they risk being without insurance. ”Now, they will have to get insurance or pay a hefty fine. If they choose to buy insurance, they’re going to pay higher prices than if they had bought insurance before Obamacare took effect.” (Top 5 Negative Impacts of Obamacare) Another downside to the law is that it needs a lot of young, healthy people paying the premiums without using the insurance to cover the expenses of those who are ill. “It depends on getting a whole bunch of young people into the program. So far scattered re... ... middle of paper ... ...h causes the store prices to go up everywhere. So that those who are working less hours and bringing home less money are now paying higher prices for goods. In conclusion, obamacare will raise unemployment and reduce incomes. It takes away our right to make our own decision on whether we want health insurance or not. It raises the price for health care to something that is harder to afford. It does not meet the promises that were given before it was passed into law. The United States federal government already has programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security which are having financial problems. Why add another one when the government has already proven that they are not good runny these type of programs? I think that the law needs to repealed due to the negative consequences. I think that the government needs to find a better way to reform health care.
