The inception of the Affordable Care Act has revolutionized the health care system in so many ways. For instance, this act has mandated that all health plans, including the employer sponsored plans, to provide free preventative care. This is very monumental because this would allow millions of workers to finally be able to visit a doctor for their yearly check-up without having to expense anything out of pocket.
The commencement of the Affordable Care Act has also challenged many employers to improve their benefits in order to remain a competitive advantage in the business world. “More than three-quarters of American workers say their workplace benefits package is important in their decision to take or reject a job, according to new research by the nonprofit Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) and research firm Greenwald & Associates” (Miller, 2015). With the ever increasing health care costs, employees would seek that employers contribute more in order to keep their out of pocket outflows at a minimal. To date, every applicant that I have personally encountered will always ask the question, “Are there benefits?” This is an indication that the workforce is seeking more than what the salary provides, they are seeking ancillary benefits that would benefit them and their families.
