The essay aims at an explicit discussion of adolescence as a stage of human development. The stage occurs at the age of 12 years to 18 years. The paper will discuss the transition stage in detail and the crucial social cultural and physical aspects associated with the stage. It will also look into the cognitive aspect in human development that result due to adolescence by mentioning to a theorist work. In every stage of human development, it has been found that they exist some important non-normative life transitions associated with it. The essay will precisely analyze the crucial non-normative life transitions that are expected to occur in the adolescence stage. the paper will discuss the criteria in which self-concept develops in the adolescence stage, the factors that may affect an individual’s self-concept during the normative and non-normative stage and also provide a rational on how understanding the adolescence stage contributes to nursing practices.
Adolescence stage is considered as an important and crucial phase in an individual’s life. The period begins with puberty and ends with an observable physical growth. It is hard to assign define age in which the stage occurs since it differs from one country to another. They exist two types of adolescence namely early adolescence and late adolescence. Early adolescence occurs at the age 12/13 to 16/17 years while late adolescence occurs at the age 17 to 18/19 years. Adolescence stage is associated with physical development that may likely differ with the gender. The physical changes associated with boys may include growth of penis, change in body height and shape, erections with ejaculation, changes to voice and growth of body and facial hair.
