Addressing negatives
It doesn’t matter who you are, when it comes to your career you are going to get knocked off the horse from time to time. Messing up interviews and getting fired is part and parcel or the work process, and isn’t always reflection on yourself as an applicant or an employee. If you have a bad track record of interviews or negatives points on your CV, such may come up during an interview. When this happens you should never lie, but you should put a positive spin on things. For example, should you have been let go from a former position, it will never be wise to talk badly of a former employer, but you can talk about the creative differences you may have had. Ideally you will want to reach the person who interviewed you, but if you can’t don’t be averse to leaving a direct but polite message. If you don’t hear back after a few days, don’t give up and remain persistent. You have nothing to lose, so pick up the phone and call again. Worse comes to worse you should at minimum send the interviewer an email expressing your gratitude for the time they took to speak with you. If an employee does get back to you, but with concerns instead of praise, then don’t be afraid to address it with them right then and there.
Practice, practice, practice
The ultimate piece advice anyone can ever give you regarding job interviews is very simple, you must practice, practice, and practice some more. Practice with family, practice with friends; practice with a professional, practice by yourself, but just make sure you practice. The reason for practicing is important, because working on the fly during an interview will ultimately lead to disaster for most. It is also via practice that you can improve, enhance, and revise your interview technique for the interview at hand.
