Like most smokers, we already know that smoking is bad for your health and for the people around you. Tobacco in cigarettes contains a highly addictive drug, called nicotine. With nicotine being highly addictive it is very hard for people to quit. Tobacco has many toxic and harmful chemicals that can cause diseases and people can die from smoking. It isn't easy to quit smoking, actually many people say it is hard to kick the habit, but using quit-smoking medication and willpower people succeed to quit. People who try to quit smoking without quit-smoking medication do not very much succeed, but people who use quit-smoking medication greatly succeed. Quit-smoking medication is defined as nicotine replacement therapy because they have small quantities of nicotine. Overall, 98% of the quit-smoking medications are over-the-counter and doesn't require a prescription by your doctor. There are only two prescribed medication that has to be prescribed by your doctor, which are Chantix (Varenicline) and Zyban (Bupropion) that don’t have nicotine. Over-the-counter quit-smoking medications contain small amounts of nicotine. If you decide to choose either one, smoker’s chances are 50/50. All quit-smoking medications can help reduce the nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and soon enough you will stop smoking for good.
Here are some medications that are available over the counter along with the advantages and disadvantages of each and one of them.

The nicotine patch is a patch like a bandage, it sticks to your skin, applying it anywhere between the waist and neck area. The nicotine patch slowly releases nicotine into your system to help reduce the withdrawal and symptoms.

Summary of Primary Recommendations
A number of recommendations have been made over the years to greatly improve the success in quitting smoking. It is important for smokers to know that their not alone and there’s help to a better health. Included in these recommendations include (1) over-the-counter quit-smoking medications; (2) prescription medications prescribed by a doctor; and (3) calling quit-smoking hotlines.
