As we know addiction could be an attachment to anything, so to make this easier I would like to use the drug cocaine. A brief history lesson on this cocaine comes from the “Erythroxylon coca bush, which grows primarily in Peru and Bolivia.” (Narconon International) In a concentrated form cocaine can become very addictive that directly affects our brain and ways of feeling. In 1914 cocaine wasn’t even illegal, but an increase in cocaine usage was at its peak during that time. The reason why this certain chemical surged was due to the fact that it was used for a medicine, today we know it as “Coca-Cola” the everyday drink we see when we go out to eat or possible even choose to drink. John Stith-Pemberton developed an elixir that contained about sixty milligrams of cocaine per eight ounces. Cocaine was also being used in medical settings due to its anesthetic properties (Doweiko, 2009). When trying to overcome addiction CBT is a great way to start your path to a better healthier life, but support is also a main factor in giving the individual strength and reasons why to fight the addiction. Being stubborn may only push away the people you care about the most and if that happens the individual can instantaneously give up and not give his 100 percent on therapy sessions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a short term therapy and it may probably be the hardest one for the patient due to the fact that it does pin point their unhealthy habits, but in the long run it will benefit the person into becoming stronger person. Our society thinks that addiction is something difficult to overcome and truthfully it will most likely will but it is not impossible to beat it.
