Methods
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this research is to examine the achievement gap between whites and minorities in special education on standardized testing.
Participant Protection
The permission will be requested from William Carey University and Institution Review Board. Permission will be requested from Supertintendent from a rural elementary school located in northwestern Mississippi from special education classroom. Permission will be requested from the parents of the students participating in the study.
Participants
The demographics are made up of two classrooms. Each classroom will contain three African American students and three white students of 2nd graders. The students all have been labeled as having a Cognitive Delay. The participants have been in Special Education for two or more years. The school demographics consist of 80% black, 15% white and 5% Hispanic.
All of the students receive free and reduce lunch. The family live in lower income housing and receive government assistants. The family all have generational cycle on receiving government assistance. The community has a high rate of black on black crime, gang violence and police brutality. The participant live in a single family home with the other parent in prison or killed due to gang violence. The average age of school education is the 3rd. In the community family one out of 3 house hold has a person in the family that is unable to read or write.
The form of discipline that is used in the family homes in the community is Corporal Punishment. The types of Corporal Punishment used in the families homes are physical force with a belt, switch, fist or hand. At the school 80 % of the parents prefers if their child get into trouble at school the parents...

...ctivity on the key concept and Ideas. The control group will take the post –test as a written test. The experimental group will take the post- test on the computer. The data will be collected to create a baseline for the study. The date will be graphed by race and gender. In two weeks both groups will be tested again and data will be collected. In looking at the data the researcher will check for any correlation in the races in reading, any regression in reading or any growth in reading that has been displayed in the data.
Data Analysis
The researcher will use SPSS to determine the outcome of the study. After averaging assessment, the researcher will analyze subgroup comparing students minority females and white females, readers to none readers, white males to minorites males. The researcher will observe the behaviors that may affect the results of the study.
