When most people think of babies they think of joy, happiness, laughter, and a wonderful life ahead. However, there is a portion of people who think otherwise, and usually have an abortion done on themselves, sometimes even more than once. An abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy usually done at about the first 24 weeks of being pregnant. A baby’s heart starts beating at just 18 days from conception (babycenter.com). Abortion should be illegal because taking a baby’s life away who has a living heart beat is murder, since killing a human is already illegal and considered murder then abortion should be as well. Well in the article, “Reclaiming Abortion Rights” by Katha Pollitt, Katha mentions how it will help if women who have had an abortion speak about their experience in order for other women who are considering the procedure know the outcome is not that immoral. She then sets the example of Emily Letts, who filmed herself getting her abortion done as the start of women speaking out. In Pollitt’s article, “Reclaiming Abortion Rights” she states, “In Pro I argued that we need to see abortion as a social good: it’s good for everyone if women have children intentionally, when they are best able to raise them while fulfilling their other plans and dreams, not because they happened to get pregnant at some random moment” (Pollitt). However, in reality, by Pollitt making this comment she comes off as very one sided and fails to see the bigger picture.
