In our society today, we are surrounded by various controversial issues. One such topic that has aroused much debate is abortion. People all over the world have begun to question the legality of it. You can take one of two stances on abortion: pro-life, or pro-choice. Those who favor pro-life refuse to support the idea of induced abortion and strongly feel that it should be illegal. In fact, they consider it murder. Those who favor pro-choice believe that abortion should remain legal for a number of reasons (Alters, 5). Some of these reasons are; it could save a woman from undergoing major emotional pain. It could save the baby from encountering physical and emotional pain, and it could also reduce the number of maternal deaths due to unsafe abortions. Over 70 thousand women suffer maternal deaths every year due to unsafe abortions (Farrell, 26). If our government made abortion illegal, this number would drastically increase. Women everywhere would still seek out to have abortions, but instead of it being done in a clinic or hospital, uneducated staffs would …show more content…

There has been reports of women being stalked, threatened, and in rare cases even killed by pro-life supporters just because they exercised their right to choose if they would like to give birth to a child (Bennett, 17). Pro-life believers say that every child has the right to live. But what if the life that the child is going to live really is not worth living? Let’s say that a child is still in its early fetal state, but your doctor has already detected many problems with the child. You are told that your child will only be on this earth for a limited amount of time, and what little time that it will be here, it will be in a great deal of pain. It is the woman’s decision to decide what she would like to do at this point. She should not be threatened, or harassed if she decides to abort her child to save it from
