Abortion Morally and Ethically Wrong Many American’s come to face an ethical decision that weighs on their morality everyday and that is whether or not to abort their child. Abortion has been a subject of controversy for many years after it became became legal in 1973 with the legal case of “Roe vs. Wade the United States Court ruled that a woman has a constitutional right to an abortion” (Ethics 165). Abortion becoming legal set it on the front burner for many groups to fight for the right or not. Abortion not only is a debate amongst groups, it also has to be an internal battle for the many woman who make this decision as it plays onto their personhood. Human beings have been taught morally that it is a sin to take another’s life. The question is though does a fetus have the right to not die as any other human being, and if why are we still performing abortions as it is ethically and morally wrong to end one’s life. Abortion, even the term sounds horrific as it is an induced expulsion of a fetus usually during the 6-16 week period, however; there are some states that allow up to the 24th week of pregnancy. Now imagine 24 weeks of pregnancy this fact alone one can see why it is such a controversial subject. Even at 16 weeks or 4 months pregnant one begins to question the fetus and the viability. Viability is whether or not the fetus can survive outside the uterus. With the fact of vitality and the argument of when the embryo becomes a “baby” has been the cause for many ethical and moral arguments against abortion. Since it is a controversial issue with some people being completely against it, others insisting that woman should be able to choose and it is her body. The one main question is how one faces themselves the next day, as this is a decision that weighs heavily on ones moral beliefs and their soul. Proving again that abortion is a morally wrong decision if it stirs something so deep inside you. Whether or not one is for or against abortion, I would hope that the young ladies facing this issue think deep, hard and carefully about the decision as it isn’t one to be taken lightly. This is a procedure that isn’t reversible and one has to face themselves morally and ethically for the rest of their life about the decision that ended their child’s.
