Some individuals can get into a heated discussion about abortion. Abortion is a huge ethical topic on whether it is morally right or wrong. There are generally two sides that are taken “pro-life” or “pro-choice.” In this paper I will evaluate two arguments, one taking each side. After reading and evaluating each article I will state where I stand. Although, there is no clear-cut answer for some people, for me personally I am pro-life. I believe abortion is morally wrong.
The first article I read was A Defense of Abortion and the author Judith Thomson took the pro-choice stance on abortion. This is her argument in standard form.

...me people are not capable of taking care of a child but that is why there is adoption. So in rape cases or unplanned pregnancies if you didn’t consent or want to have a child then you can but your baby up for adoption. There are other options then having an abortion.
Now, I would like to share a personal story. My mom got pregnant at seventeen years old (unplanned) and there were many people who thought that she would be unfit to have a child and should get an abortion. Instead of taking the easy way out and having an abortion, she not only gave birth, but also decided she was going to raise me. If you think about it, I was that fetus that couldn’t speak up. I will be forever grateful that my mother’s moral compass stepping in. She thought it was morally wrong to deprive me from my right to life. These are all the reasons why I believe having an abortion is wrong.

Should Abortion Be Morally Wrong? Essays

- Abortion In this paper I will explain Judith Thomson’s argument that abortions are not morally wrong under the condition that the fetus is considered a person. By setting this condition, Thomson advances the argument on why abortions are morally permissible by getting past the triviality of whether the fetus is a person or not. I will explain three cases she presents in which she argues that an abortion is morally justified: (1) It is not wrong to abort a pregnancy that resulted from rape (2) It is not wrong to perform an abortion in order to save the mother’s life (3) In many cases, it is not wrong to abort if the pregnancy resulted from protected, consensual sex and does not threaten the m...   [tags: Abortion, Pregnancy, Fetus, Birth control]

Abortion Is Morally Wrong? Essay

- Women are prohibited from abortion in country X due to the existence of beliefs that promote inferiority of women. This remains a major problem because the society of country X doesn’t respect women’s political or civil rights that involve making decisions regarding their bodily integrity, which forces women to carry fetuses to term. In this paper, I will argue that we ought to reject Don Marquis’ notion of opposing abortion due to the presence of the fetus’s future of value because Marquis fails to properly account for the type of future that the female fetus would eventually have in a particular setting like country X where civil and political rights are extremely limited....   [tags: Abortion, Abortion debate]

Abortion Is Morally Wrong? Essay

- Mrs. Smith is faced with the decision on whether or not to have an abortion. She has already two kids of her own and is struggling to make ends meet. Mrs. Smith does not know why she is once again pregnant when she has been using contraception consistently. At the end, she makes the conscious decision of having the abortion. Is her abortion morally justified. The view of abortion simply depends on the person’s point of view on life. The philosopher Don Marquis, argues that abortion is morally wrong because we will then be depriving a fetus of a future life while Judith Jarvis Thomson argues that having an abortion is morally justified because Mrs....   [tags: Abortion, Pregnancy, Fetus, Embryo]

Abortion Is Morally Wrong? Essay

- In Dan Marquis’ article, “Why Abortion is Immoral”, he argues that aborting a fetus is like killing a human being already been born and it deprives them of their future. Marquis leaves out the possible exceptions of abortion that includes: a threat to the mom’s life, contraceptives, and pregnancy by rape. First, I will explain Marquis’ pro-life argument in detail about his statements of why abortion is morally wrong. Like in many societies, killing an innocent human being is considered morally wrong just like in the United States....   [tags: Abortion, Morality, Pregnancy, Human]

- Gonzales V. Carhart “Since human beings are valuable in the way that qualifies them as having a right to life in virtue of what they are, it follows that they have that right, whatever it entails, from the point at which they come into being--and that point (as shown in our first Section) is at conception” (Lee and George 82). The authors of The Wrong Abortion make a clear stance on the issue of abortion, and they make it very clear that abortion is morally wrong and that it strips humans of their birth given rights....   [tags: Roe v. Is Abortion Morally Wrong? Essay

- What is abortion. When does life begin. These are just some of the controversial questions being asked in the United States today. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. It is the medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and causes the death of the growing fetus. While abortion should be the most urgent practice to put an end to, it is far from that. Since the Roe v. Wade case in 1973, abortion has been legal in the United States. Since when did creating laws, regulate the killing of innocent children....   [tags: Pregnancy, Abortion, Utilitarianism, Birth control]

Essay about Abortion Is Morally Wrong?

- In discussions of abortion, a controversial issue has been whether abortion is morally permissible. According to anti-abortionists, abortion is the killing of an innocent fetus and is therefore not morally permissible. According to Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, abortion is not morally wrong in most cases and she attacks the anti-abortionist argument. Therefore, they disagree on whether abortion is morally permissible or not. In this paper, I will outline the anti-abortionists argument in numbered premise-conclusion form and show which premise Thomson attacks....   [tags: Pregnancy, Abortion, Human, Trolley problem]
