“I certainly supported a woman’s right to choose, but to my mind the time to choose was before, not after the fact (Ross).” In Ann B. Ross’s quote, she says that choices should be made before the point of pregnancy. In today’s society birth control is not hard to get, and if a person is unprepared or at a point in their life that they do not want a child, then they should consider the results of their actions. In some states, bills have been passed where the mother has to hear the child’s heart beat before she can In 2011, 333,964 lives were taken before leaving what is supposed to be the protection of the mother’s womb (Bigelow.). Abortion is not only unhealthy for the mother, but an immoral act that can never be changed, and it should never be permitted.
If other options are available to women, what leads them to choose abortion? Three fourths of women say they cannot afford a child, one half say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner, and three fourths of women said, having a baby would interfere with work, school, or other responsibilities (“Facts About Abortion: U.S. Abortion Statistics.”). None of these statistics should be acceptable reasons for a woman to kill a life growing inside of her. Although abortion has been made legal, it is still a highly debated topic. Planned Parenthood received $542.4 million in “government health service grants and reimbursements,” including “payments from Medicaid managed care plans” (Bigelow.). Why, when it is such a controversial topic, are citizens’ tax dollars going towards something they might despise?
