Abortion is a very controversial word. It is not something to be taken lightly whether you are against it or for it. When I say for it, I mean pro choice. Pro-choice to me means being able to decide what I want to do with my body, I am not for abortion. Of course I would rather see a fetus come to life but that is not choice. Whichever your feelings are, there are reasons why the new Texas laws hurt women and could be a gateway to more of our rights being taken away. If you live in Texas, which is a primary conservative state with old traditional views, abortion is frowned upon. Since they can not make abortion illegal they passed their very restrictive abortion law called HB2 in 2011. This law has since changed the way many women get reproductive health care, not just abortions. In Texas you when you go get your license you have the option to check whether you want to be an organ donor or not. If you choose not to and you happen to past away, a Doctor can not go into your body and take your organs for someone that is alive and needs a heart. A corpse, which most people believe is just dead bone. The person that is not there no more has more rights than a woman in Texas does. Even if their organs were useable and healthy, they could not go to a person who is alive and needs to be saved without consent. Women have fewer rights to body autonomy than dead corpses, which bring me to my next point. Life happens at conception and abortion is murder. Between the times of conception to the time of division the cluster of cells are called a zygote. From then to 8 weeks it is called an embryo. This “life” is just cells and then a tadpole look a like. It is not compatible with life at this stage and according to CDC reports in 2012, 73.2% of abortion happened during week 8 and below. There is no way this “baby” can survive even with a heartbeat detectable, the mother is the one keeping it alive.
