In the 21st century, where material objects have more value in our lives, any selfless efforts made are very rare encounters. A living legend and inspiration for others, Abdul Sattar Edhi has made it his life mission to serve the needs of the less fortunate of Pakistan. Edhi has created the well known organization called The Edhi Foundation, which strives to help the less fortunate in Pakistan with services such as baby cradles, burial aid for the many unclaimed bodies, and most importantly running Pakistan’s largest ambulance service.
II. Background On Edhi
A. The only source that contained reliable information regarding the background and childhood of Edhi was in his autobiography dictated to Tehmina Durrani.
B. Edhi was born in 1928 in Bantva in modern day Indian and his parents were part of a community of farmers.
C. Edhi’s father had been widowed twice and had been left with two sons and one daughter from the two marriages.
1. His father later married Ghurba, Edhi’s mother.
2. Ghurba had previously been involved in a violent and traumatic marriage but decided to later divorce.
D. The family lived in an area of Bantva that was called Dhobi Barrah where Edhi’s father owned a building in which they lived in for several years.
1. They later sold the building and moved to another area following Edhi’s grandmother and stepsisters death.
E. Because Edhi’s father was usually away from home , Edhi’s mother influenced his childhood and decisions that Edhi would make in his adulthood very much.

It could be said that the ambulance service that is run by the Edhi Foundation is not the most important service that the organization has to offer, however this is the one service that is fast enough to help others escape danger. In the book, “Half of Two Paisas” there is a quote that explains how efficient this service really is.
1. The people of Karachi say, “ Edhi ambulances get to the scene before the angel of death does.”
2. One time the foundation got a call from the presidential palace stating there was a bomb that had gone off when in reality there was no bomb and they just wanted to see which ambulance service got there faster.
3. “Our ambulances were there in three minutes; the others took over 11 minutes.”
Due to the unfortunate incident that happened recently and resulted in EMTALA violations by a DeTar Emergency Department Staff, it in of grave importance that DeTar Hospital develop policies and procedures that will eradicate deficient practices promptly and put in place sustainable solutions to prevent a reoccurrence.
Ambulances help many people in life or death situations every year. Ambulances can get people to the nearest hospital, faster than the speed a normal person could. Ambulances can cut driving times, by more than half of what it would normally take. Ambulances can also provide early medical care. When people are picked up in the ambulance, surgeons or other medical personnel, will be there waiting to help the patient.
