This is a story of Max, who went to sleep an ordinary boy and woke up with an unordinary ability. The ability to with his dog Comet.
He first realized this when his dog came in that morning and started barking.
Instead of hearing barks, he heard "come on and wake up you lazy bum it's time for school"
At first he couldn't believe what had just happened. After wiping his eyes and making sure he wasn't dreaming, he said to his dog Comet "it's Saturday, I'm sleeping in." Comet responded with "In that case get up you lazy bum and play outside with me"
Max thought this was the coolest thing ever. "When my dog barks, I hear with his words exactly what he's saying"
This will be a very interesting day for sure.
Max and Comet went downstairs to eat breakfast. Max ate a bowl of Fruit loops and He gave Comet a bit of dry dog food in his bowl. Have you ever wondered what your pets are thinking? Personally, I wonder all the time. I purposely mess with my dog to see how he reacts. Well, now you can at least get an idea of what they are thinking. The humorous short story, ¨A Conversation With My Dogs,¨ by Merrill Markoe is about a dog owner who is having a conversation with her dogs Bob and Stan about how they follow her around everywhere. The author is attempting to portray the thoughts of dogs when communicating with them. In this instance, the owner is confused about why they want to follow her everywhere. This short story is a high comedy that uses witty humor and situational irony to make the audience laugh while giving the lesson.

... mumbled to the old-timer of Sulphur Creek.” (11). He then drifts off into what seemed to be the best sleep of his life and the dog stays for a bit only to eventually leave and find the other “food-providers and fire-providers”. (11)
The vicious dog ran straight for the grandmother 's house and knocked on the door. "Who is it?” said the grandmother. The dog replied, "It is Little Red Riding Coat. I have your care package." "Oh that is great. Just push the door open, it is unlocked," said the grandmother. The dog ran inside and bit the grandmother enough to make her pass out and dragged her out of the house so Little Red Riding Coat would not notice. He put on the grandmothers clothes and laid in bed like how the grandmother was.
He awakens to the sound of whimpers. He then tilts his head to the sound of shoes clinking on the concert floor, and then the light enters his small cage. He raises his head, tail between his legs, to look at the men peering down at him. He knows that the pain from the electric shocks is waiting for him. He doesn’t know why they want to hurt him, after all he’s just a dog.
Lenny has a condition know as dry eye. This means that his eyes don't "make tears". So the vet showed me how to put natural tear eye drops, the same as people use, into the dog's eyes. (Oops that should be eye. Lenny had to have one eye removed two days before he came to live with me. The reason for this is very simple- abuse.) Now it's 9:00p.m., time for me to put drops in his eye for the first time. I held the little dog tightly against my chest and carefully poised the bottle above his eye and squeezed a single drop carefully into the fur on his ear! After several attempts some of the drops made it into his eye. The next morning was just as bad. Eventually I had an idea. When I put drops in my own eyes I put them in the corner. I don't hold the bottle directly over my eye. Lenny was squirming and unhappy because twice a day a stranger tried to poke him in the eye with a drippy foreign object. That's enough to scare anyone! Now I had a plan. At 9:00p.m. I did not clamp the little dog against me and stick a bottle over his eye. Instead I gently laid him on the floor. While I petted and talked to him, I held the bottle at the corner of his eye. Two drops later most of the liquid was in Lenny's eye. I was thrilled. Lenny still didn't want the drops, but after only two or three times of this new procedure he no longer resisted, as much. As time went by liquid drops alone were not enough. Now

Louis rushed right over to see it really was Church, and he worried about how to tell Ellie.
When Billy was a boy he always wanted a pair of hound dogs. However, as much as he wanted a pair of hounds he did not receive them. Every now and then he would hear the neighboring dogs calling treed to their masters, and their masters whooping back to them to tell the hound that they were on the way. This encouraged Billy to want a hound even more. His dad told him one day that his grandpa wanted to see him soon. Once he got to his grandfather, his grandfather told him that he had seen an ad in the newspaper for some hound dog pups. So he went and got an old tin can and started putting money in it that he made from working in the fields.

Whilst the concept of autism and what it means to be autistic is still widely unrecognised by many, Mark Haddon’s use of conventions of prose fiction and language amplifies the distinctive qualities of the text. Haddon exemplifies key themes such as the struggle to become independent, the nature of difference and the disorder of life through the strategic placement of literary devices.
