INTRODUCTION
Christology is the study of the person of Jesus the Christ, what and who he is / was: his natures, person, obscurity, ministry, consciousness, etc. (Harvelle, 2009). Originating from the Greek word ‘Christos’ meaning, “anointed one”; it often includes such topics as the pre-existence and eternality of Christ, Old Testament prophecies about Christ, Christ’s humanity, deity, and incarnation (Herrick, 2004). Recent decades have seen an increasing concern that Jesus of the Bible was different to the Christ of theological Tradition. This approach can unintentionally convey the idea that the Son of God only appeared to be human during his earthly life as Jesus of Nazareth (Krieg, 2002, p. 2). There is a notable tendency to read the New Testament singularly through the eyes of John 's writing to demonstrate this methodology, while there is a visible contrast between John and the Synoptic Gospels (Krieg, 2002, p. 2). Consequently overlooking the diversity and complexity of Christ 's identity. In a sense, Christology from Above undermines the human that is Jesus Christ as well as the divine. In Religious Education we also need to be very careful when we speak of His divine nature, although this approach does not ignore the human dimension of Jesus ' earthly history. Some issues could arise with this, as young primary students may struggle to understand the union of divine and Human in Jesus of Nazareth and recognise the distinctiveness of the historical individual of Jesus the carpenter (Emil, 2012). This paper is written to discuss the many different ideas that have been discussed over the first half of Theology 104. This class went over many topics which gave me a much better understanding of Christianity, Jesus, and the Bible. I will be addressing two topics of which I feel are very important to Christianity. First, I will be focusing on the question did Jesus claim to be God? This is one of the biggest challenges of the Bibles that come up quite often. Secondly, I will focus on character development.

The life of Jesus is told in the four gospels of the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They speak of His virgin birth, His ministry and miracles, His death, and His resurrection. Jesus was born into humanity through Mary but was conceived without a human father (Matthew 1:18) making Him fully man and fully God. He was called the Son of God, (1 John 5:20), the second person of the Holy Trinity. Jesus taught about the kingdom of God and how we are to love everyone, even our enemies (Merrick, 2015). It is possible to write on the life of Jesus in a topical manner. This paper will be divided into three parts. In the first part of the paper, I will discuss about the nature of a gospel, Johns views vs. the Synoptic, whether or not the writers of the gospels were eyewitnesses and how they used written sources and also about what is Q source and how Mathew and Luke were similar when it came to their sources; how the old testament stories (Moses, Samuel, Elijah) used to interpret Jesus and finally whether or not Sermon on the Mount happened. In the second part of my paper, I will talk about Jesses birth and childhood, the miracles, his resurrection and also the actions Jesus did relating to curing people, spirits and how they are these interpreted: prophet, magician, madman compare Saul and Elijah. In the final part of the paper, I will discuss about what Jesus spoke about the Kingdom of God vs. the kingdom of the Romans and what he meant by the end of the world and also the reason behind the Romans executing him. My sources for this paper will be the New Jerusalem Bible (Gospels of John, Mark, Matthew and Luke) and lecture notes from Professor Trumbach.
One of the main principles of Christianity is the belief in both the divinity and humanity of Jesus, that these two natures are combined harmoniously in one being. In general, all modern Christians believe that Jesus was human, he was considered to be “The Word was made flesh” (John, I: 14). Nearly everyone is familiar with the character of Christ. While understandings of Christ as a figure of faith may vary, he is universally recognized as a historical figure. The world knows that Christ was called “Son of God,” he called people to love, and he died a painful death on the cross. He has become such an important figure that images of him show up frequently in literature. Thomas Foster, author of How to Read Literature Like a Professor, outlines a wide range of characteristics common in Christ-like figures. In his list of descriptors, Foster suggests characters might be Christ figures if they have wounds reminiscent of the crucifixion, suffer in agony, or are self-sacrificing—and this is only the beginning of his list (126). One of the greatest debates that continues to rage on amongst theologians, as well as others, is in regards to the balance between the humanity and the divinity of the person of Jesus Christ (also known as Christology). This debate can be especially challenging in the Scripture passage of Matthew 26:36-46 where the reader finds Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Many of the ancient and medieval theologians worked to explain away apparent humanistic characteristics seen in this section of the text, while more modern theologians seem to be more open to embracing these characteristics. While the ancient and medieval theologians may not have embraced the humanity of Jesus, the translations and backgrounds of the words “cup”, “grieved”, and “agitated”, along with the translation of the passage itself, the humanity of Jesus is not only present in the passage but also a necessity to the salvation of humanity through the sacrifice of Jesus. Simply put, for the salvation through death to be relatable for humanity, Jesus had to also be, at least in part, fully human as well as being fully divine.

The Gospel of Matthew is an eyewitness story written for an audience of believers, under great stress, and persecution. Matthew develops a theological plot incorporating genealogy, speeches, parables, inter and intra textual references, common vocabulary, and fulfillment quotations, with a tension that builds as we are invited into the story. The crucifixion and resurrection bring us to a Christological climax that symbolically points beyond its conclusion to God’s Kingdom, bringing atonement, salvation and the ushering in the Eschaton. Jesus Christ was the light that came to earth to brighten the lives of the people. He taught phenomenal and meaningful lessons that changed many hearts and caused people to accept Jesus as their Lord. Jesus Christ is the life of Christianity; the Word of God in flesh. His life, his ministry, and his crucifixion where prophesied long before he was born and Christians believe that they were all fulfilled.
