Diabetes Type 2
Type 2 diabetes is one of the forms of diabetes that is extremely common in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) claims that “over 29 million children and adults in the United States have some form of diabetes”( Brind’Amour). “Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease in which people have problems regulating their blood sugar” (Brind’Amour). People who have diabetes will have high blood sugar because their bodies cannot produce enough insulin and do not react to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that lowers the level of glucose (a type of sugar) in the blood (“Kids Health”). Primary causes of type 2 Diabetes are: being overweight, physical inactivity, bad sleep habits, and genetics.
A primary cause of type 2 diabetes is being overweight: “four out of five people with type 2 diabetes are overweight” (Vann). Having excessive fat changes the way that a person’s body would react to insulin. This will then lead to a condition called insulin resistance, which is when “your cells cannot use insulin to process blood sugar out of the blood” (Vann). The second cause of type 2 diabetes is not having enough exercise. Exercise not only helps prevent being overweight but it also helps in developing muscle. If a person exercises it will increase their lean muscle mass. The lean muscle mass will “[protect] the body against insulin resistance” (Vann). If a person does not have muscle then they will become very vulnerable and have a higher risk of developing diabetes type 2.
Another cause of type 2 diabetes is bad sleeping habits. Not having enough sleep or too much sleep can affect the “body’s balance of insulin and blood sugar by increasing the demands on the pancreas” (Vann). The pancreas is a lon...

...ure it will put tension in your heart and because the heart has tension or strain it will “double the risk of heart disease or stroke” (Pientrangelo). Although, these are the worse kinds of complications of type 2 diabetes, there are still other complications that can happen. For example, type 2 diabetes can also cause damaged blood vessels, foot problems, and more (“Type 2 Diabetes”).
In conclusion, it is very important to know about type 2 diabetes and how people could prevent this disease, because it is again one of the common forms of diabetes in the United States. Since obesity is also one of the main problems in this generation many kids will be at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Also, this disease leads to other serious problems like amputations or even death. It is also convenient to know the symptoms that happen in people based on their gender.
