Study Design
The study will be a quantitative quasi-experimental design because this will allow the intervention to be tested and measure variables. To determine the cause and effect relationship of probiotics to UTIs or BV, the RCT method is the most effective method of testing (Melnyk & Fineout-Overhault, 2015). A comparison of the groups can be made and the hypothesis is evaluated with this technique without having a strict control group (Melnyk & Fineout-Overhault, 2015). The clinical question is designed to find an intervention that will be cost effective for women who have recurring UTIs or BV. Do probiotics as prophylaxis treatment reduce the recurrence or extend the time between recurrences in women who suffer from UTIs or vaginal infections?
Setting/sample
All 100 participants will be women aged 18 to 60 years of age (Melnyk & Fineout-Overhault, 2015). Women, who are diagnosed with either a UTI or vaginal infection, in the primary care office will be eligible for the study regarding preventative therapy after treatment with antibiotics. This will be confirmed with a UA and wet mount vaginal smear identified as BV under the microscope. The setting is a primary care office in a rural community with limited health care access. This experimental research design will have all of the key elements needed to make it a true experimental study (Melnyk & Fineout-Overhault, 2015). First, one group will receive the intervention, which is probiotics daily, and a comparison group that will not receive daily probiotics (Melnyk & Fineout-Overhault, 2015). Next, a random selection of the groups by having the participant choose a color, green or yellow, which will be associated with either the probiotic use with the use of better hygiene a...

... by answering the survey (Tools4dev, 2016). Then feedback will be provided by the pilot group on the questions to make sure they are understandable and easy to read (Tools4dev, 2016). The participants will also be asked to identify any questions that could lead to a bias answer (Tools4dev, 2016). Once the feedback is received, changes will be made to the survey as needed (Tools4dev, 2016). Pre pilot testing will be performed and post questionnaires will be performed as an evaluation of the quality of questions provided on the forms (PEW Research Center, 2016). The pretest group will be a small number of people from the survey population to make sure that order and interpretation of the question is correct (PEW Research Center, 2016). Change will be measured by wording, types of questions asked, and the order of which the question is asked (PEW Research Center, 2016).
