The piece of work that I decided to look at was Right to Life, a photograph taken by Cary Wolinsky in 2011. The piece was showcased in a room along with several other photograph pieces by the artist and a selection of some of the objects or clothes that were important parts of her pictures. This picture Right to life was one of the many photographs by this artist that I saw that day that really enjoyed. The piece really made me think because they point towards very controversial subjects in photograph. In America, we have two major political parties and these parties and their ideas play a big part in our culture, which we can see in just by the media alone. On the one side are the Republicans “the more conservative of the two major political parties in the US: established around 1854” (Dictionary.com) who usually are supporters of harsher treatment of criminals and supporters of the death penalty but also often times also being the Republicans or conservatives many are often religious and take strong views when it comes to human sexuality and the views on abortion. On the other side are usually the democrats “the older and more liberal of the two major political parties, so named since 1840” (Dictionary.com) they are usually those who are supporters of human rights and who support pro-choice when it comes to abortions and who support life and reject the concept of the death penalty.
