Employers, today, are widely concerned with establishing equality within the workplace. It has been the objective for many, if not every, companies to instill a no discrimination policy within their work environment. Society is dependent on these policies to provide morally correct work and employment ethics. This is crucial as “employment is an area that is subject to criteria of individual and social justice,” (Grace, 138). The case of health benefit company, Weyco Inc., is one of many that come across the issue of whether company policies expedite towards morally incorrect behaviours within the company. It is evident that by looking at the three moral concepts of private vs. public morality, occupational health and safety, and discrimination (outlined within Business Ethics by Damian Grace), as well as moral theories such as consequentialism, relativism and nonconsequentialism, the behaviours practiced within the Weyco Inc. Policy are in fact moral.
To begin, Weyco Inc's non-smoking policy has brought up the issue as to whether it is partaking in inequitable behaviour. This unique policy which prevents all employees of the company to smoke, even in their private homes, has questionably pushed boundaries for many of their employees privacy. However, by looking at the moral concept of private vs. public morality, it can be said that these implementations are not in fact discriminatory. The manager of a company has only the interests of the corporation at mind, and they are to accommodate their private values in order to stay in position as an ethical role within the corporation (Grace, 56). Howard Weyers, the company's founder is not morally wrong when instilling his policy within his health benefits company because he is in ...

...d to establish a work environment which provides a non-discriminatory set of policies. It is clear to see that with the reinforcement of the three moral concepts stated in the outline, as well as the moral theories, Howard Weyers did not infringe upon any of his employees rights as they are not only looked upon within the company policy, but a key concept for the corporation itself. With the best interest of the company as a whole, as well as the employees that take part in it, Weyers has established a policy that is morally and ethically favourable for the company itself. Thus, Weyco Inc. has respectfully kept its name as a trustworthy company that treats employees with equality and fairness within the workforce.

In the book, If Aristotle Ran General Motors, Tom Morris argues that the teachings of the ancients can and should be applied to today's corporation. His message is that the four virtues - truth, beauty, goodness, and unity - form the foundation of human excellence. Putting them into practice leads not only to self-fulfillment, but ultimately to an open, nurturing, and ethical workplace that is more productive and successful in the long-term. The purpose of this essay is to examine how Morris treats the system of ethics in relation to these four virtues.
11). The noxious environment at Claymore, did just the opposite during the time of this writer’s employment at the agency. Furthermore, the Claymore scenario, highlight the harm of juxtaposing ideals mitigated by ridged top-down hierarchies in the context of caring centered practices. The organizational dynamics, and homogeneity among the members of the leadership team produced inherent ethical dilemmas orbiting around race, class and academic status. The above mentioned example also underscore how complicity has a tendency to exacerbate the unjust behavior of one rouge administrator, when practitioners fail to act based on ethical codes of conduct and
Weyco Inc. had a no-smoking policy, where employees were banned from smoking both in the workplace and outside the workplace. This policy also applied to spouses of employees who were also being covered by the company’s health insurance. To ensure employees were not breaking the policy, Weyco Inc. required its employees to take a test that would reveal whether they smoked. (Cohen & Grace 79)

“Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. It seeks to divide and to destroy. It is the enemy of freedom, and deserves to be met head-on and stomped out.” These wise words were spoken by Pierre Berton, an author of non-fiction novels. In our society, racism is everywhere, and has been in our past as well. Racism is ruining our world, and it is becoming tolerated. It is a threat to our society by affecting not only one person, but all those who are involved, whether it’s the bystander, the victim or the one who was being racist.

Discrimination occurs when an employee suffers from unfavorable or unfair treatment due to their race, religion, national origin, disabled or veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics. Employees who have suffered reprisals for opposing workplace discrimination or for reporting violations to the authorities are also considered to be discriminated against. Federal law prohibits discrimination in work-related areas, such as recruiting, hiring, job evaluations, promotion policies, training, compensation and disciplinary action. (employeeissues.com, 2006)
Relations at work are almost inevitable. However, there are instances where those relations interferes with work or the generally become offensive. Defining harassment could appear somewhat simple but yet very complicated, due largely to the nature and forms it take. It was until the 1970ties before the word gained entry into mainstream literature. Harassment could be viewed as an offensive behavior that interferes with the dignity of another person. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) defines it as “unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature” In reality harassments are behaviors that upset, disturbs
Systematic discrimination in the workplace takes many forms, whether direct or indirect. For transgender individuals, as in the case of Maria Vanderputten versus Seydaco Packaging Corporation, they face oppression and inequality, through harassment, demotions and even termination of employment because they do not conform to gender norms, which is a violation of human rights. Workplace institutions must be equitable and make greater efforts for diversity and inclusion in the workplace. They need to address systemic barriers, poisoned environments and organizational cultures that condone discrimination. The case of Vanderputten will be used as an example to provide evidence of the issue of transgender human rights workplace discrimination in Canada. Data will show that the transgender population faces double the normal rate of unemployment and that 90% of experiencing harassment on the job. An unfortunate number of transgender also report a high involvement in underground employment. The courts have recognized that transgender are a disadvantaged group and human rights decisions make it clear that their rights are protected. Workplace organizations need to
I discovered how sticking to one’s morals should be the topmost priority for everyone involved in business, whether personal or professional. Regardless of what the consequences may be, the intensity of the problem, and the complexities it may bring, sacrificing one’s integrity should never be an option, as integrity goes hand-in-hand with the morals of an individual (Duggan & Woodhouse, 2011). They further go on to say that having individuals take part in building a code of ethics that supports employee integrity, they will act ethically. Also, I believe that companies should place more emphasis on the moral behavior of their employees, and clear-cut policies should be set regarding such ethical situations. Furthermore, I realized how serving justice while making decisions really helps in the long run, and that opting to go for the ideal rather than they deserved is not always the best option, and could hurt a company in more than one
Job discrimination has been a poison polluting the atmosphere of the workforce for a countless number of decades. Unfortunately, it is a poison that still lingers in today’s modern workforce. To combat this threat, and to aid those individuals affected, several Federal laws have been implemented to prohibit job discrimination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, as an example, is a Federal legislation that outlawed unequal opportunities and rights in the workplace. The purpose of this legislation is to prohibit employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin ("Federal laws prohibiting," 2009). However, is it a justified action for a business to hire staff based solely on the fact that they are Christian? After all, Federal law prohibits employment discrimination based not only on color, race, sex, or national origin, but also based on religion. How should an employer respond that is proposing for their hiring policy to target dedicated Christians only?
Abstract- Racial discrimination happens all the time and most of us are unaware of it. The most common place for this to happen is in the workplace. Now people can be discriminated against because of their race, religion, or any other numerous things. Also, discrimination can occur during the job interview or even after you got the job. This paper will shoe the effects of racial discrimination and how it can be prevented. In addition there are some very important laws that deal specifically with discrimination, like the NAACP or Affirmative Action. These both will be discussed.

As a rule, discrimination
