Love is an emotion you feel towards your friends, families, coworkers and pets; however, it is an emotion unable to be permanently defined. Love is redefined by the people and revolving situations that make each relationship unique. In A Home the End of the World by Michael Cunningham, the author challenges the emblematic definition of love. Some relationships can be explorative, intimate and platonic, dynamic, or sexual; nevertheless, a trait each relationship possesses is uniqueness.
Our first loves are always one of the most clearly remembered relationships we have ever had because they are the ones in which many different aspects, especially in terms of who we are as individuals, are brought out. The characters go through explorative and influential relationships assisting them in finding their true selves. As this book takes place in the 1960s when being gay was not socially accepted, Jonathan defies the norm at a young age as he realizes he is not straight. Once he grows older, he meets Bobby who has never really figured out his sexuality yet and soon their friendship develops into something much more. They explore their sexuality and Jonathan realizes that although he is confused and worried, this is who he is; despite on the other hand, Bobby realizes maybe this is not where his heart is completely. Love can also be very influential as we are constantly trying to please our partners or loved ones. Bobby had been under the influence of drugs since an abnormally young age because of his older brother who provided him with the drugs and taught him everything. Bobby knew no other way of living in result of growing up around such influences. Jonathan had never tried drugs because he was never exposed to the idea a...

...and is different in each relationship. Love can be explorative in which the participants find out who they truly are with the assistance of their partner, between friends in which they love each other greatly but not as anything more than friends, and it can also be based off of sexual feelings. Though love is between multiple people, it is felt completely differently by each person whether they are a part of the relationship or not. Therefore, what is your definition of love?

Have you ever felt the feeling of butterflies in your stomach or heard the phrase “my heart skipped a beat for you”? As children, we grew up learning from our elders and experiencing new beginnings in life. Much of our knowledge has been brought upon by what we see and hear, rather of what we know. Many important decisions we make in our life has to do with what our feelings show us. Love is an important matter in our life because it motivates us in different ways. Love can be shown through emotions or even through actions. What is a valuable definition of love? A brief definition of love can be said to be a variety of different feelings or attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure. In other words, to me love is when two people share the same inner feelings such as emotional and physical attraction to one another. Love is an emotion that can be described to control the feelings of a person by being set together through emotions, not being confused with friendship and being built like a puzzle.
Love cannot be defined in one sentence or even a paragraph. Every human has his or her own definition of love because people usually define love based on their cultures, backgrounds, social classes, educations, and their societies. In this essay, the main point will be the different kinds of love that Carver illustrates in his story “What We Talk about When We Talk about Love.” In Carver’s story, there are some points that I can relate to my personal experience. There are a few characteristics and symbols in the story that are really important to understand in order to define what a real love is and find the intention thrown out the story. These characteristics includes, Mel, Terri and Ed and Terri’s relationship. Furthermore, symbols such as ”sunlight” and “dark room”,” cardiologist” and “silence” at the end of the story can have a specific intention thrown out of the story.

Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God based on the definition found in The Encarta Encyclopedia. As I explored the definition by means of the Internet, books, and articles I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in The Encarta Encyclopedia was probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All in which can only be defined by one word and that it love.
From birth, humans are given unconditional love from their mothers, who through nurturing establishes a standard of love for which their young will psychological seek as they filter their interactions into adulthood. They will gravitate towards this feeling of familiarity and base their life decisions upon it. Love is almost supernatural in the sense of how extreme it can manipulate one’s existence. In its prime state, love is a sensation of the highest pleasure, however when deprived of this pleasure one can be left with an extreme void. Nonetheless, despite which duality is received, personal growth is insured from either outcome. As the human condition of love has transcended every art form globally, proving how inspirational and destructive
Much of my life, love has been defined by an unexplainable and uncontrollable feeling that burns inside your soul. One that when you look at a person you will just know and the rest will be history. This definition of love I grew up love was also demanding, controlling, dependent, and selfish. But still it was something to be desired and something everyone couldn’t wait to feel. To love
Love is a strong affection for another individual based on personal ties according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Love has mean definitions throughout the world we live in today. In some cultures, love has been defined as the sexual devotion of a mother for her child and in other cultures the essence of love was the chaste devotion of a knight for another man’s wife(pg520). Although love has many definitions and interpretations it can be looked at in two perspectives. One perspective which is rooted in practical help and affection. Also, another perspective that only focuses on affection. In the perspective which practical help and some affection shows love for a person the individuals have to be in a mutually beneficial relationship were
There are many broad ways love can be defined so people can relate, but sometimes they are not clear. The Webster Dictionary defines love as “strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties” or “attraction based on sexual desire”. Those two definitions may be a similar way love can be based around, but it means so much more. It does not always mean you have a
From the beginning of time to the present day, the definition of love is debated and discussed by the greatest scholars of every generation. Created with shaping the world as we know it, love is well known to have given the human race unknown joy alongside indescribable death and destruction across the geographical landscape. As I further researched the meaning, I came to realize that isolating love into a small realm is nearly impossible for even the most intelligent of authors. Religious zealots, wives, children, sports teams, and historical figures all experience love in a different magnitude. According to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, “Love is defined as feeling great affection, pleasure, or desire for a person or object.” By
Love is arguably the most powerful emotion possessed by mankind; it is the impalpable bond that allows individuals to connect and understand one another. Pure love is directly related to divinity. Without love, happiness and prosperity become unreachable goals. An individual that possesses all the desired superficial objects in the world stands alone without the presence of love. For centuries love has been marveled by all that dare encounter it. Countless books and poems have been transcribed to explain the phenomenon of love, but love surpasses all intellectual explanations and discussions. Love is not a definition, but rather a thought, an idea. This idea, the idea of love, burns inside us all. Instinctually, every soul on Earth is
Love is formed from all over and everybody has their own interpretations of love. Love is defined in many different ways all in many different place from all around. A question that would be hard to define accurately is , what is the real meaning of love? Love in a summed up way can be described as Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure. You can always love and it be a different way of loving. For example love like a friend, or love sexually. Just like in greek. They have multiple different ways of expressing and explaining love.
Love is affection, devotion, passion, desire, warmth, respect or loyalty. You choose. It doesn't really matter which one because they are all forms of love. Some are powerful and demand attention while others are more subtle and just below the surface. In recent years, love has drifted from these subtle levels to the more noticeable ones, namely passion. In my opinion, our society downplays the real necessity for genuine affection. By this I mean that we, as a society, spend so much time focusing on only one level of love (passion) that we tend to neglect and not recognize the need for closeness and trust (friendship). Love is an all-encompassing emotion that can be powerful and demanding, but also rewarding and pleasurable.
Love, that single feeling which generates the funny sensations in people's stomach, giving them the warm pleasures in their body, causing them to feel joy, and to believe every aspect in their life is right. It causes them to receive an exhilarating, appealing feeling that makes them want to rejoice. Love can be a speeding of their heart, but it can also be nerve-racking. It makes their hearts begin to rapidly pump, making a rapid beat— “ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom”. Attempting to describe love is a rigorous task, but it is possible. However, the easiest detail to describe and understand about love is not so much the feeling of it, but the concept of what it is about. Many people may obtain different views and definitions regarding love, but
To better understand the concept of "love", lets define the value of love. Love is the most valuable commodity in the world. We all need love just like a fish needs water. Without love, life would not be worth living. With love in our lives, we are empowered beyond belief.
Love is not usually well defined. People often think that they are in love, but they cant explain it. There is a great dealing of confusion of the words love, and infatuation. Love may include romance, infatuation, affection and tenderness. But it could be love if one or more of the elements are not present. The definition of love varies from person to person. Love is essential element for all relationships. Much of what is written about love is either brief or mocking. Society in general is very cruel and heartless toward real love of any kind. Modern writing mocks marriages, husbands and wives, but condones adultery, and other obscene values. Real love is a mystery to most people. Most people never realize the true potential or value of love, nor do they learn to practice the art of love.
