The purpose of this assignment is to participate in and evaluate a health-promoting activity beyond the classroom. I need to observe, record and interact with members of the community. I have chosen to volunteer at a Daycare centre because I am currently completing a Diploma in early childhood education and care, so this will benefit me to gaining my placement hours and is an opportunity to get hands on experience in the field and learn from other people. I have acquired a Child care first aid certificate and a Police clearance that specifies in working with children in order to commence Volunteering. My Intention was to volunteer at a place that I was passionate about, and enjoyed in order to make a positive impact to the community. Since I will be freely giving my time, energy and skills, I wanted it to be meaningful, positive and rewarding. I did some research on Centres that were local for me and I decided to go with Modbury Community children’s centre because of what it stands by. “With a strong focus on natural play, sustainability and recycling we are teaching the next generation …show more content…
She demonstrated the health and safety regulations, Centre rules, Expectations, Menus and fire exists. I will be working with children 0-2 which is an age group that is more hands on, and I am happy about this. By volunteering at Modbury Community Children’s centre I will learn and develop new skills. I hope to gain a sense of achievement at the end of my volunteering experience. I will be Volunteering every Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. My goal is to have desire, motivation and enthusiasm every day when attending the Centre because I want to be able to release a positive energy when working with Children. Fundamentally, Volunteering will assist me in boosting my career options, give me new experiences and I will be able to meet a diverse range of
Service is when someone uses their skill and effort to enrich the wellbeing of others. It is an inherited trait of every individual to look after himself or herself. Service is a benevolent or an altruistic effort in which the benefits typically used for oneself are offered to another. Temple hospital offers community health workers to patients who are in need.
I felt as if I was able to make a change even though it wasn't a major change. I also loved working with kids of all ages ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade. They all brought a different personality which I enjoyed. Overall, volunteering anywhere helps someone make a change in someones life and their own even though they may not notice it. There are many people who are in need of volunteers all the time and not many people get the opportunity to volunteer during their lifetime.
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
The information presented during this course has increase my knowledge and experience about my role as an early childhood educator. The resources presented helped me to learn ways to promote healthy development and well-being of all children and how to be an advocate for them. I believe this class enriched my knowledge about infant-toddler care and education to the point that I would most like to express to others its importance. One thing that I would like to share is that infant–toddler care and education is crucial for physical and cognitive development. The caregiver/parent interaction is necessary for the children to keep alive the desire for communication and learning. I would like to express to others that we should keep in mind at all times that children are unique individuals that deserve care and respect. The caregiver should be a role model from day one, so the child will learn to copy her, and later on impart the same behavior to others. She should interact with the children to develop a relationship that will help the child to express feelings and emotions in a nice way. Also, I would like to express the importance of teamwork. Parents and caregivers need to work together in developing relationships to promote healthy development for children. According to Mary Benson McMullen and Susan Dixon, “ Each family and professional must learn to work and make decisions together to support the child’s healthy development and to ensure the family’s well-being” (McMullen & Dixon, 2006). In my opinion caregivers need to start developing the relationship with the parents from day one, and supporting their wishes on what they prefer for their child. One way of doing this is by respecting thei...
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.

Volunteering can be gratifying and everyone should experience giving time to others without expecting anything in return. I have some history with The Excel Center in Kokomo, I am a recent graduate from there and have spent time tutoring when I can, to help other students succeed. After leaving there, I considered a future career within the walls of the school, I have even been told on numerous occasions that I am more than welcomed back after I finish my degree. Once I knew I had to volunteer in a human service field, I knew I wanted to give The Excel Center a shot right away, knowing this was a guaranteed place to be challenged and given an honest opinion of my work.
When I found out that I had to do seven hours of volunteer work I immediately knew that I wanted it to involve children. I attended the volunteer fair that was held earlier in the semester and signed up for programs such as Louie’s Kids and Wings for Kids. Unfortunately I could not volunteer for either of these programs because they were not in walking distance of the college and I did not have transportation. A couple weeks after that I saw a flyer advertising for “Reading Partners.” I attended an informational event that they held and signed up to volunteer at Memminger Elementary, which is about two blocks from the college.
Having a safe and healthy childcare setting is one of the most important duties in a daycare. Educators practising good healthy procedures is a good way for children to learn about healthy choices as educators are, good role models.
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
Why I want to volunteer I am directionless. Lost in a sea of people; people who all seem to know what they want to do with their lives. Volunteering can help me find a direction, a path that I want to be on. Assisting patients and workers provides more information on working in a hospital than any course or the internet can provide.
My fondness in public health drove me to get an opportunity to be a health educator’s volunteer in enlightened health organization (non-profit) which is working in Houston to promote the public health through scientific researches and spreading health awareness among the people through offering free screening for blood glucose, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, free lab tests, offering health pamphlets and ensuring an access of
...e volunteer opportuities consist of answering phones, filing chats, greeting wic participants, and reading and conducting activities for children while their parents are occupied. The requirements include being able to read and write, ability to work well with others, enjoy working with families and children receiving wic and sensitivity to cultural diversity. (Wic office, 2014). The benifits of volunteers are lower administration costs, stretching resoures, and increasing the quality and quantity of the services that re provides to participants.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
