Student Violence, a Growing Epidemic

From Columbine to Sandy Hook, this country has been showing some serious growth in violence among students and schools. When it’s so clear to see, all over news reports, social media and everywhere one turns. It’s evident that searching YouTube one can find thousands of videos of students fighting on school grounds and most of them, hearing people egging them on and laughing in the back ground. The insanity that a child would ever feel the need or want to bring a gun or any weapon to a school and hurt the people that child is surrounded by every day, is unfathomable. The violence has seemed to only get worse and it’s possible that school shootings are spreading outside of school; movie theaters, malls, downtown parks, anywhere with a large crowd and someone with a broken fuse can unleash a trail of sheer terror and pain. It’s a despicable event; something that affects the families of the victims, perpetrators and whole community. But when it’s a whole state that is hit, that’s something that is a sad truth for every incident of this nature. School shootings are happening more and more than of lately. Ever since Columbine, a high school shooting involving two gunmen and thirteen students killed, it seems this was so similar to Pandora’s Box; now that it’s been opened, its bringing chaos. One of those gunmen at Columbine, Dylan Klebold has used the excuse being bullied enough to a state where there was no escape. This is no excuse for taking a fellow student’s life. There are many other reasons this is said to have occurred. It’s been a constant battle that rock music encourages bad behavior and violence in teens; Dylan’s case was just another bonus to add to the whole idea; “…that blaming stock scapegoats for that tragedy - such as... ... middle of paper ... ...ten, not with how tragic and preventable it was.
