Shameless is a TV show about a dysfunctional family living in Southside Chicago and their adventures trying to figure out life. Frank Gallagher is the no-good father that drowns himself in alcohol and drugs while is eldest child, Fiona, takes care of his 5 other children.
Intimacy and sexuality are heavily involved in Shameless throughout all seasons. Since Love Actually is a romantic comedy it is understandable that the movie would have some connection to intimacy and sexuality. However, the infidelity throughout the movie is how it best weaves into the topics of this class. While there are many couples that experience cheating in some fashion in the movie, Harry and Karen’s is the best example of an affair that occurred that some other issues connected to it.
Harry’s infidelity is very straight forward. He cheated on his wife with a younger woman named Mia at work, not only expanding on a sexual relationship but also a loving relationship. It was not until Karen found out about the extra-marital relationship and realized how much it hurt her that he felt any remorse. It is never explained in the film why he decided to have an affair with Mia, but the movie does allude to the feeling that Harry feels stuck. People used to go to their community and church to fulfill all their expectations. Now so much pressure is put on a person’s significant other to be everything and more that people rarely measure up. The story is the most powerful and most compelling form of human expression in Leslie Marmon Silko's novel Ceremony. Stories reside within every part of every thing; they are essentially organic. Stories are embedded with the potential to express the sublime strength of humanity as well as the dark heart and hunger for self destruction. The process of creating and interpreting stories is an ancient, ongoing, arduous, entangled, but ultimately rewarding experience. As Tayo begins to unravel his own troubled story and is led and is led toward this discovery, the reader is also encouraged on a more expansive level to undertake a similar interpretive journey. Each story is inextricably bound to a virtually endless narrative chain. While reaching an epiphanal moment, a moment of complete clarity, l is by no means guaranteed, by presenting Tayo as an example, Silko at least suggests there is fundamental worth in pursuing and creating stories.
Three stories, “The Most Dangerous Game”, “The Sniper”, and “Just Lather, That’s All”, each with their own plots and conflict, yet they are all quite the same. Examples of conflict are, man vs man, man vs self, and man vs nature. Comparing the stories and writing down detailed descriptive notes shows the similarities between all three interesting stories. To compare the stories may take some time but with careful analyzing and good descriptions, the comparing may not be as hard.

These timeless tales relate a message that readers throughout the ages can understand and relate to. While each of these tales is not exactly alike, they do share a common core of events. Some event and or character flaw necessitates a journey of some kind, whether it is an actual physical journey or a metaphorical one. The hardships and obstacles encountered on said journey lead to spiritual growth and build character. Rarely does a person find himself unchanged once the journey is over.

As compared to the texts read and viewed in class, the show may be set in modern time, but the idea of myth is carried on from centuries before. A myth doesn’t need a love story, or bloody battle scenes to comprise a reader’s interest. It needs a core built up of strength and perseverance which creates the hero of it’s journey. My modern television show choice is a prime example of an ongoing story with the heroes continuing to the best of their abilities to make it out alive. As I have learned, a myth can never die out, and in this story the legend of the strong ladies will never die out in their town. The dedication they have to each other and their own prosperity is not to be forgotten.

The first form of adultery is Accidental Infidelity. This can happen to the more careless person, but at the same time, to the person whose values and commitments are tenuous. They lack self-control and respect for both themselves and their spouse. Any situation where they are left alone with the opposite sex is an opportunity for an “accident” to occur. It was shocking to find out that most cases of infidelity occur with couples who are less than twenty -five years old, one would have thought early marriages where happy and care free (figure one).
Several different elements are necessary to create a story. Of all the elements, the conflict is most essential. The conflict connects all pieces of the plot, defines the characters, and drives the story forward. Once a story reaches its climax, the reader should have an emotional connection to the both story and its characters. Not only should emotions be evoked, but a reader should genuinely care about what happens next and the about the end result for the characters. Guy de Maupassant’s “The Necklace” is the perfect example of how a story’s conflict evolved the disposition of its characters.
