As women, there has always been an issue with equality between themselves and men. Even though there has been a significant amount of progress in the United States throughout the years, there are women that still suffer with equal rights around the world. In A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates, and “Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway, there are many aspects throughout them that relate to each other in numerous ways. The main theme between them is the way woman are treated and how they appear to be less equal of the men in their lives. Many believe that abortion is the only right a woman should not have. They also believe that women should not be able to have the option to ruin another life or not. What those people do not understand is that it is taking away a women’s right to make the decision. “I cannot understand anti-abortion arguments that centre on the sanctity of life. As a species we 've fairly comprehensively demonstrated that we don 't believe in the sanctity of life. The shrugging acceptance of war, famine, epidemic, pain and life-long poverty shows us that, whatever we tell ourselves, we 've made only the most feeble of efforts to really treat human life as sacred” (Moran) For Caitlin Moran, the right to have an abortion is just as important as the right to do anything else in life. Her book “How to Be a Woman” gives a funny and logical view on women’s issues such as abortion and being able to make decisions for the benefit of individual women. She goes on to explain her view on humanity, saying “I’m neither ‘pro-women’ nor ‘anti-men’. I’m just ‘Thumbs up for the six billion” (Moran). While American men and women are perceived as equal, it is still a problem the county faces daily. There are some women that get paid less for the same exact job. There is always a problem with the abortion choice. In the eyes of churches, divorce is not an option. There are many problems women face in order to live their lives comfortable. There are also many triumphs that women go through. For example, women are able to vote in the United States. Women still have the option to be a wife, mother, or neither; it is socially acceptable in the American culture. While around the world there are women pushing for the same rights American women have, feminism is well alive. Although it might be a slow and steady progress for women everywhere, eventually women will have the same rights and same equality all men have around the
