My future career goal is to become an anesthesiologist. An anesthesiologist administers an anesthetic to patients before going into surgery. They also have to keep monitor of vital life signs and make sure everything in the body is functioning properly while under the anesthetic. I think being an anesthesiologist is something I’d enjoy being because I like being in control. I like making sure people are okay and that is specifically what anesthesiologists do; they make sure the patient can’t feel any pain and is comfortable during surgery. Anesthesia is used in almost every single surgery. It is a numbing medicine that numbs the nerves and makes the body go unconscious. You can’t feel anything or move while under the sedative and are often delusional after being taken off of the anesthetic. Believe it or not, about roughly two hundred years ago doctors didn’t use anesthesia during surgery. It was rarely ever practiced. Patients could feel everything and were physically held down while being operated on. 2It wasn’t until 1846 that a dentist first used an anesthetic on a patient going into surgery and the practice spread and became popular (Anesthesia). To this day, advancements are still being made in anesthesiology. 7The more scientists learn about molecules and anesthetic side effects, the better ability to design agents that are more targeted, more effective and safer, with fewer side effects for the patients (Anesthesia). Technological advancements will make it easier to read vital life signs in a person and help better decide the specific dosages a person needs. Anesthesiologists have many responsibilities. 3They measure the patient’s temperature, pulse, heart rate, and breathing rate while under the sedative. They have... ... middle of paper ... ...le feel comfortable yet not feel any pain before, during, and after surgery requires much more responsibility than it sounds but in the end it is probably one of the most rewarding careers out there. An orthopedic surgeon must be creative. The body is like a sculpture. When someone breaks a bone and the orthopedic surgeon has to go in and fix the bone with pins, the surgeon sometimes has to be creative with the way they put the pin in and where they screw it down. An orthopedic surgeon must like to fix things (Ryan). Orthopedic surgeons are similar to construction workers. Both use drills, saws, hammers, nails or pins, and many other tools. An orthopedic must not be afraid of blood, bones, or loud noises. When asked if ever disgusted at the beginning of medical school, Dr. Ryan was q...

...k in a surgical environment, such as an operating room. They may also work in outpatient surgery centers or medical offices (Santiago, 2014). According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of nurse anesthetists is expected to grow 31 percent from 2012 to 2022 ("Nurse Anesthetists, Nurse," 2014). Job opportunities for advanced practice registered nurses in general are expected to be in high demand. The most recent data are of May 2012, in which the median annual wage for nurse anesthetists in the United States was $96,460 ("Nurse Anesthetists, Nurse," 2014).
According to Career Cruising, “anesthesiologists are doctors who administer drugs or gases that prevent patients from feeling any pain or sensation during surgery.” They monitor the patient before, during, and after the operation. Career Cruising also noted that before surgery, anesthesiologists consult with patients and make decisions
The idea of taking care of someone and providing assistance to a complete stranger is something not many people do. Seeing people at their worst, during a difficult, challenging and frightening moment of their life is not a job many people would take. However, being there for a person at their time of need is what captivates me the most. Nursing, a career I want to pursue and one that is on my to-do list. Being a nurse entails a lot of things; you must be strong, passionate, hardworking, and caring. Becoming a nurse is my ultimate career goal. In the long term a clear-cut decision would be to further continue my education and become an Nurse Anesthetist with a Master's degree.
One those who have completed a program in general anesthesia or deep sedation through the Commission on Dental Accreditation can provide this type of care, and some practices now employ a dentist anesthesiologist for this reason. The dentist anesthesiologist undergoes training in every type of sedation for both adults and children.
On July 2020, I plan to start working a new career as a Nurse Anesthetist, this is very important to me because it has always been my goal to practice anesthesia, as it allows me to work in a higher level of nursing, and ensuring the patient pain are manage during certain medical procedures.
It is one I know I will love and will be much more than just a job. It gives ordinary people the opportunity to be a proponent for every patient especially those who may fall through the cracks of the health care system. With that being said, I established important goals to remain on this path for success. By the end of my career I hope to be ultimately satisfied with my choices and following the realistic and clear career goals I have put out with myself, I hope to acquire the characteristics needed to become a successful perioperative nurse and become not only a healthcare provider, but an advocate for my patients and to have the education needed to give them the care and dedication each patient
Anesthesiologists are those that patients who have active DNR orders encounter quite often. 15 percent of their patients with do not resuscitate orders go to the operating room for procedures that are most of the time geared toward improving the quality of life (Kelley , 2014).
It is very important that a patient is comfortable and can trust the nurse anesthetist before going under anesthesia. On the micro level, nurse anesthetists interact with patients and their families. There are face to face discussions between them pre and post operatively. It is pertinent that the nurse anesthetist is outgoing and easy to talk to so that the patient is not uncomfortable before going into surgery (Nurse Anesthetists). Some important symbols that nurse anesthetists represent are comfort, health, and trust. If a patient is uncomfortable or experiencing anxiety, it could result in an increased heart rate, an increase in blood pressure, and other health complications. Consequently, it is very important that nurse anesthetists come in with a positive attitude. The symbol of health is due to the life of that patient being in their hands. It is up to the nurse anesthetist to evaluate the patient at all times to ensure there is no harm or complications that result from the procedure. Trust is also an important symbol because a patient has to be able have confidence and trust that the nurse anesthetist treating them is experienced, knowledgeable, and competent in providing their care and performing all of their duties. If a patient does not trust the nurse anesthetist, it could result in the procedure having to be postponed in order to find another nurse
People have elective surgeries as well as emergency surgeries every day. The medication needed for these surgeries is administered by an anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologists must make sure that their patient gets the proper care they need for pain management. Anesthesiology is one of the highest paying jobs on the market. Accordingly, the schooling needed to become this highly trained doctor requires a lengthy time investment. On average, a student has to be in school eleven years to fulfill an anesthesiology degree. Job projections forecast a promising future for those seeking employment in this field of study. Anesthesiologists have very important jobs for the well being of people.

Given these points its is easily shown that an anesthesiologist is not only highly educated in medicine and the human body but as well as in the ability to interact with others and deal with with his or her patients emotions and reactions. Anesthesiologists hold a very important position in the medical field. The general public needs anesthesiologist not only during surgeries but in dentistry, birth, and plastic abscission. With modern medicine advancing everyday, who knows in what other fields society we will need them.
The career field I am studying is anesthesiology. The reason I am studying anesthesiology is so I can learn about a possible future career field for me. I choose anesthesiology because it seems to be an interesting career choice. It seems like it would be cool to be one. That is the reason I am writing this paper to so if I would be interested in becoming an anesthesiologist.
