Radiology Technologist have been around for almost a century. “Radiology Technologist works in various places taking diagnostic imaging examinations for patients, which are x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, and mammography.” (eHow) This job is one of the few in the world that can give the risk of cancer to the rad-techs. And is stilled one of the most needed in the medical field. Radiology Technologist needs to understand computers and what the x-rays show, and how to set up a patient for and x-ray to be taken. Radiology Technologist are one of the highest paid in the medical field. This is because the job has more risk than any other job in the medical field. The radiology technologists have used x-rays for what has almost been in use for medical interest for over 90 years. However, x-rays have been in use for entertainment and fun for almost 100 years. The call for radiology technicians is going to raise by at least 14% in the next six years, because x-rays are the only way for a person to see inside their body and see what type of injuries and health issues they are facing.
The first x-ray was discovered by a German physics professor, named Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, using cathode tubes when he made transparent images using his wife’s hand. After months of being used as entertainment, physicians saw that x-rays could be use in the field of medicine to give diagnoses and treat injuries and diseases like cancer. In 1920, Ed Jerman and 13 x-ray technicians (half of them were women, which continues to dominate the field) established the American Association of Radiological Technicians to “[afford] technicians an opportunity for the interchange of thoughts and ideas concerned with radiologic technique.” (ASRT, 2010.)

In the long run, in order to become a radiology technologist can be a very difficult task, and only the most resilient can get in. Those who want to actually have a career in this field of medical services. And if the student does get into this career choice, then they will be able to be rewarded for the rest of their lives with benefits and pay raises that will be included throughout their job career.

The X-ray was first discovered in 1895 by a German physicist named W.C. Roentgen (“The Discovery”). W.C. Roentgen was working in his lab one day in 1895 and decided to send a high electrical current through a cathode ray filled with special gas. He realized that a dim green colored light was being produced, and decided to hold the cathode ray just above his wife’s hand. When he did this he observed that the light was able to penetrate human skin, but would leave all the bones visible. There is a picture below of the X-ray of W.C. Roentgen’s wife’s hand (“The Discovery”). He named it the X-ray because he did not know the identity of what kind of ray it was. He just named it X, because of its use in solving unknowns in algebraic equations (“The Discovery”).
My topic that I am researching is a Radiology Technician. Basically, their job is to help Physicians take x-rays and to help them out with the readings. They also perform cat scans, ultrasounds, and radiation therapy. This article informs the reader of the job duties and occupational specialties. It tells them what they need to be able to do, such as noticing detail and clearly communicating. It also provides them with educational and preparation opportunities. The training is provided and the work environment is in mainly hospitals or, if you are in combat, a mobile field hospital (#10). They need to be physically ready, able and willing to perform their duties. They have to be very alert and vigilant in trying to study and notice the very in depth detail of the images they produce. Radiologist Technicians have a very small field of workplaces they may be at. If they are combat, such as military, they will be in what is called a mobile hospital field. Here, they may tend to and care for the soldiers who have fallen in battle because of a wound or any other difficulties within the body. They may work in a more common space, such as a physician or hospital room. Regardless of where they may work, they will always have a major part in the workforce. Now, lets talk about the equipment they use. One of the many different types of equipment they use is called a Computed Tomography, what this does is it allows technicians to produce many cross-sectioned images of the body. They can use these readings and images to comprehend the problem or problems that are associated with their patient. Next, we have the Sonography equipment,or the ultrasound equipment. This piece of equipment uses high frequency waves to view internal organs and musc...
Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always known that I wanted to be in a career that involved helping people. I believe that entering a career as a Diagnostic Ultrasound Technician will help me fulfill my desire to help others. I have come to realize the great importance that early detection plays in the medical field. Early detection is key to fixing a problem before it gets worse. It would be extremely fulfilling to have a career that may potentially stop a small health issue from becoming a life-threatening illness. Being an Ultrasound Technician and performing diagnostic sonograms will help me to detect any medical issues a patient might be unaware of so that a physician can properly diagnose and treat the patient early and effectively.
In the radiology profession first you must write the patient’s file. This includes information about insurance, medical history, what the required x-ray is for and where it is going to be taken on the body. Writing in this way is similar to writing a small research paper. You must do research on the patients and there history and what insurance they have. Writing the report is important because the information must be accurate so the patient can be helped as much as possible. If the information about medical history is incorrect it can cause a huge problem for the patient. For example, if the patient is claustrophobic they would need to get an open room x-ray where the patient isn’t in an enclosed tube so they don’t have a panic attack and potentially injure themselves and others. It is very important to make sure the report has the correct area of where the x-ray needs to be taken. Having the wrong part of the body x-...
For decades, the effects of radiation has been studied by doctors around the world. X-rays are used in the medical and dental field to take radiographs of certain parts of a person's body. Some have become concerned of the long term and short term effects of having x-rays taken because of the radiation that is exposed. Since the rise of concern, studies have been done to find any type of link between cancer and radiation from x-rays. Specifically, in dental x-rays, researchers have been performing studies trying to prove that radiation from x-rays in the dental office can cause cancer .
Attending Florida Southwestern State College to become an x-ray tech is a huge accomplish for me. Because I have a learning disability unfortunately I have to take remedial courses like intermediate algebra, Brush up English, and a reading course the first semester. The good thing about studying Radiology is you can switch to any type of jobs in this field. For an example, you can switch to working with MRI’s or Cat Scans if you want to try another department in the Radiology field. This specific field is for you to work with x-rays. It’s important to know the bone structure .You can work with ultrasounds to, Cat Scans, to MRI’s (Magnetic resonance imaging).
My personal experiences however, do set me apart. I did not always seek a career in radiology. My first semester in college I was actually striving to be a paralegal and quickly realized that although I have a talent for paying attention to small details and great communication skills, that particular career was not the way I wanted to utilize those natural talents. This forced me to really look deep within myself and figure out what career would give me a true sense of fulfillment, success and happiness; this led me to the Nursing field. Shortly after starting towards this career path I needed to take a break to focus on becoming a
Being able to identify lumps, swelling, tissue damage, cysts, and the overwhelming news of the sex of a baby all have something in common, an ultrasound. Swelling of the spleen, kidney stones, blood clots, aneurysms, cancer and so much more can be identified through the works of an ultrasound’s imaging technique. Ultrasound involves many concepts, procedures, and careers. The amount of medical possibilities involved with ultrasounds is useful in major medical diagnostics. The field of ultrasounds and career opportunities are widely growing. As medical careers flourish, needs for technicians in many fields of medicine are increasing. Instead of a doctor choosing complex and risky surgery to find out problems within the body, they can now choose a safer path; the ultrasound path. Patient’s history and physical evaluation are building blocks to diagnostics but ultrasounds are much greater. They are powerful tools used to see beyond the skin into the depths of a person’s body. What ultrasounds are, what types there are, and what they are used for, and the education and careers available are the major themes found in research on the subject. Knowledge of ultrasound and its background may help one decide what career is best for them. Understanding the wide array of diagnostic tests and their uses are essential to figuring out what a career as a sonographer entails and the type of education that is needed. Because there are plenty of possibilities for specializing with different technologies, there is a wide variety of job opportunities in the medical imaging career. The call for ultrasound’s assistance opens new paths in future high-quality careers.
Today I’m going to inform you about X-ray Technology its history and how it been advancing since it’s been invented. Also will inform you how it is currently helping doctors and their patients.
Radiation therapists have a very hard job, but there are pros to being one. During a long work day they see many things a normal person would not see. According to Health Care Careers, many radiation therapists think of their job as a rewarding career because they are able to help many different patients fight for their lives. The radiation field will grow above normal, which will make it easier finding a job. There are also cons to being a radiation therapist. They work with patients who are constantly fighting cancer and under a mass of stress. The therapist has to consider the problems in life that the patient will go through. Being a radiation therapist can be very challenging.
In conclusion, with all the facts being said, working with MRI machines may seem very challenging and very scary. Without the proper handling and correct safety precautions taken, several risk factors may be presented to the technologist and patients. It is vital that an MRI technologist be highly trained and educated in order to alleviate possible danger to patients and other personnels. MRI machines are highly used all over the world in order to diagnose and treat a good majority of the population's illness and diseases. They are capable of producing immensely detailed images that are unmatched to any other imaging modality. Though it is important to remember, the bigger the machine, the greater the risks and responsibilities both the patient and the technologist will be presented with.
Within the field of radiology, there are: (1) radiologists who are physicians specializing in interpreting diagnostic images in connection with diagnosing illnesses and injuries and monitoring medical conditions in relation to many other areas of clinical medicine; (2) radiological nurses specialize in providing nursing services exclusively in connection with radiological medicine; (3) radiologist assistants are the first line of support for radiological physicians and perform many of the procedures and tests ordered by radiologists; and (4) radiological technologists operate and maintain some of the sophisticated medical imaging systems and tools and work side-by-side radiologist assistants and radiologists in conducting the diagnostic tests on patients.

Medical Physics page 159-188. Diagnostic radiographers also work closely with all members of the health care team as the images produced can affect and determine the treatment and care a patient receives. The role of a radiographer is vitally important to other members of a healthcare team- the diagnosis from a radiographer’s image can affect and determine the treatment and care of a healthcare team. Being a diagnostic radiographer takes a special kind of person combining skilled use of highly technical equipment with excellent interpersonal skills.
I was under the assumption that Radiology was primarily X-ray. I couldn’t be more wrong! The RT 100 course, does an outstanding job helping students understand all that is involved within the department. Exploring modalities, equipment, expectations, and organizations, gave us, the students, plenty to contemplate. Material presented, gave me a firm foundation on what I will need to consider, assuming this will be the field of science I choose to pursue. I also feel that if I continue, there will be no surprises on what is expected of me because practically every detail is discussed within the
