The challenge of finding a quality childcare facility and program for a 6 month old child can be very challenging. This task will require the analysis of multiple facilities and learning programs to find the right fit. In order to choose a quality childcare facility, it’s important to consider and analyze such factors as the quality of the facility, the professionalism of staff, the learning program practiced or offered and the safety and security of the facility. To find quality childcare it may be necessarily for parents to compare two to four different facilities and ask lots of questions in order to find the right match for your child.
There are a few types of preschool programs. First there are structured preschool programs that focus on emphasizing an actual school setting and classroom activities in order to prepare the child for kindergarten or first grade. There are also day care centers, which are not as structured as preschool centers. Daycare’s focus mainly on child’s development through social interaction with children and caregivers. Then there are head start programs that are geared to give children a foot in the right direction in order to be ready for preschool or kindergarten. The right kind of childcare can be a wonderful opportunity to promote the profound learning children experience from birth through age five (Selecting child care, 2002).
Most parents would probably prefer a family member would take care of their child; it could possibly be no cost and would make them feel as though they weren’t having someone else raise their child because they have to work. This is not an option for many parents so they go outside the family to make their choice of care. A day care center and an individual caregiver both have their pros and cons. Day care centers are open longer hours and have more workers in case of illness, caregivers could become ill and the parents would have to take the child to an emergency back up or miss work entirely. Children are very much individuals and have to be considered in the choice the family makes for care of their child. Every family must decide first what they can afford and then weigh the options to provide the best care available to them.

Children who participate in quality early learning programs tend to be more successful later in school. They are also most socially and emotionally competent. In addition those children show higher verbal and intellectual development during early childhood than children who do not participate in early learning programs (A Parent’s Guide to Choosing Quality Child Care). In order for a child care center to be a quality center they must have an educated staff, a program accreditation, and good health and safety practices. Parents choose high quality child care for many reasons. These programs prepare children for school in which they gain intellectual and social skills. Also the programs are a good opportunity for children because they receive age-appropriate learning materials and activities to let the children learn and grow.

A normal day for a daycare facility is to have many classrooms full of students like a typical public school; however, they are younger children and are being supervised by an adult. That adult is responsible for, on average, four to ten students at any given time, ages ranging from zero to six. During that time, a lot can happen. These busy workers have many responsibilities throughout the day. The most important one is safety. Because these children are so young, they are also adventurous therefore need a lot of attention. Daycare workers have to spend much time supervising these children while performing other tasks throughout the day. Not only do children need to be supervised to be safe, but they also need to have a safe, clean and presentable environment that the daycare workers of the facility are to maintain. One way to keep things clean is to sanitize, in which is a big task of these workers. Children are always putting things in their mouth and then passing it off to other kids; therefore, sanitation is a big deal in these types of facilities. Another responsibility that daycare providers have are to enforce rules. When rules are broken, these providers are to then enforce discipline policies. These can sometimes become an issue seeing that these providers are not the parents of the children thus they have to consult with the parents on certain discipline techniques to use on specific children. On the other hand, these providers are similar to parents in the sense that they wash children's clothing and clean up after every child. In addition to all the other responsibilities, daycare providers also have to maintain current, accurate and confidential client files per child. These files are to consist of observations and r...

Many people spend hundred of dollars monthly for others to care for their children, but you can care for your own children. The biggest benefit of this is experiencing their milestones and growth. Gratitude is gained heavily. Owning a day care, can help you learn to appreciate the little things in life such as health and relationships. Working with children can teach you to be patient and improve communication skills. The gratitude received by both parents and children is emotionally satisfying. The advantages vary between if the day is home or center based. A home based day care has a faster start up time. The preparation for opening usually is within a few weeks or up to a month. Home based is cheaper than center. A typical in home day care costs $1,000 less than a center ran business. Tax breaks are an advantage. The portion of items personally paid for such as rent, taxes, and utilities are deducted as business expenses. The biggest advantage is more flexibility. The owner has flexibility in determining the hours and days of operation and also the program in general. This includes the daily routine and the curriculum being taught. A center based day care has its advantages as well. The owner has the ability to provide for more children. In home, the maximum is at least 10 children depending on the state. Business does not interfere with your home environment, when running a center based
As a parent it can be very hard to find the right daycare for your young kids. Recently I talked to a friend from high school who has two children in home daycare. There are many different options you have when it comes to the right location for your child. You can do a daycare in a public setting, or even a private one in somebody’s house. Its kind of like trial and error, you need whats best for you and your kids.
With all said and done, I think day-care is not a bad place for a child to be after all, as long as no one takes advantage of the situation. This means that the people supervising the children in day-care centers should not take advantage of their parents’ absence to mistreat them, and neither should the parents use day-care as an excuse not to spend quality time with their young ones.
When assessing the environment of the infant and toddler room in a local daycare, I found myself very disappointed in the center. The ITERS helped me to analyze what the daycare’s strengths and weaknesses are, and I found several weaknesses. If I were to enter the daycare to assess the environment without the ITERS tool, I would likely find it acceptable. However, when I have a checklist in front of me listing specific things to look for, I find that the environment needs a lot of improvements.
