One. NZ Ethnic Diversity. Some 15 years ago “bi-ethnic” may have been an appropriate expression for NZ’s ethnic makeup, but now “multi-ethnic” would now be a more accurate description due mainly to changing immigration patterns. Also, intermarriage has meant more dual-ethnicity. Our 2013 census showed our residential population to be European 71.2%, Maori 14.1%, Asian 11.3%, Pacific peoples 7.6%, Middle Eastern, Latin American, African 1.1%, other 1.6%, not stated or unidentified 5.4% (Index Mundi, n.d.).

Statistics NZ ethnic projections indicate a 90 percent chance that our make up in 2025 will be (Statistics NZ, 2015):

• European or Other population (3.31 million in 2013) will be 3.43–3.62 million.
• Maori population (0.69 million in 2013) will increase to 0.83–0.91 million.
• Asian population (0.54 million in 2013) will increase to 0.81–0.92 million.
• Pacific population (0.34 million in 2013) will increase to 0.44–0.48 million.
The Stats NZ projections also suggest that:
• The Maori, Asian, and Pacific populations will grow faster than NZ 's overall population to increase their share of our total population. Our future is brown.
• The number of people identifying with of Asian ethnicity is likely to exceed the number with the Maori ethnicity from 2025.
• All four ethnic populations will age, with increasing numbers and proportions of their populations at the older ages.

The following graphs illustrate the above mention growth and show projections out to 2038 (Statistics NZ, 2015):

(Statistics NZ, 2015)

Thus, by 2025 an increasing proportion of Kiwis will be of Maori, Asian, and Pacific ethnicities, with Maori growing to 17%, Asian to the same figure, and those with a Pacific ethnicity will grow from 8% in 2013 to 9% ...

...on (the modern epidemic), and lack of self-esteem.
• Without religious belief we lose a means of coping with and repairing damage caused by alcoholism, drug addiction, and marital breakdown.

A recent example of the comforting power of Christianity that NZ may be losing is demonstrated by the stoicism shown by the Gotingco Filipino family whose daughter Blessie (also a wife and mother) was raped and murdered by Tony Robertson, which in part may have been due to Correction’s ineptitude. The family is surviving their loss with the help of their Catholic religion (The Dominion Post 18 May 2016).

As Christianity continues to lose its monopoly in NZ, we can also expect our cultural environment to become more religiously diverse and a less traditionally religious place to live. We could be seen as a model or leader for larger Western nations undergoing the same process.

Essay on Managing Ethnic Diversity in the Workplace

- Diversity as an issue is new. It became an issue when three powerfully significant trends reached their own critical points at about the same time (Fernandez & Barr, 1993): The global market in which American corporations must now do business became intensely competitive. The makeup of the U.S. work force began changing dramatically, becoming more diverse. Individuals began to increasingly celebrate their differences and become less amenable to compromising what makes them unique. This inclination represents a marked departure from previous times when predispositions were to "fit in." To succeed in this highly competitive environment, managers must find ways to get the highest level of c...   [tags: Racial Diversity, Ethnic Diversity]

Essay about Racial And Ethnic Diversity On Television

- Racial and ethnic diversity on television is not something that I have ever really noticed as a problem, but sitting down, and paying very close attention to the people, their roles in the show, I was able to see that there was a lack of diversity on TV. I chose a random TV channel, one that I probably would not watch, and studied the characters in the show and in the commercials for over two hours, I realized that I had never paid that much attention to the people in the show. I noticed after I was done that the largest group of people in the show and on the commercials, were white people, although there was some diversity, maybe one or two people of a different nationality, gender, or race...   [tags: Racism, Race, Ethnic group, White people]
