In this paper I am going to be talking about social and emotional development in my niece Loren. Social Development involves learning the values, knowledge and skills that enable children to relate to others effectively and to contribute in positive ways to family, school and the community (https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/families/about-friendship/social-development/social-development-children’s-social-development). I will also be talking about her emotional development. Emotional development is the emergence of a child 's experience, expression, understanding, and regulation of emotions from birth through late adolescence. It also comprises how growth and changes in these processes concerning emotions occur (http://www.education.com/reference/article/emotional-development/).
Loren is a five year old, Caucasian little girl. She lives with her parents in a rural part of Ohio. Her dad works at a construction company and her mom is a hair stylist and stay at home mom. Her mom stays home Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and she works Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. She has two brothers, an older brother Trent and a younger brother Troy. They currently are living in a rental home, because their house is in the process of being built. They are a very close family and they spend a lot of time together. On Fridays, Loren spends the day after school at her Grandma’s house with her brothers. She is the second grandchild on her mom’s side and the third grandchild on her dad’s side.

...to handle conflict. She isn’t hostile or mean when it comes to handling conflict, but she could always use help to use in the future.
I really enjoyed the observation. I knew that she would be ahead for her age, but it was interesting to see in what specific aspects. I knew that she was ahead in cognitive and language development, but I found the penny test to be the most telling of how far ahead she truly was. I think since I’ve known Loren all her life and seen her grow up, it was a lot easier for me to write. Since I’m so use to her personality and behaviors, it was easy for me to notice when her personality was off. One of the days I observed her she wasn’t feeling well and it was very obvious to me. If someone was not familiar with her, they would not know that. I learned certain milestones for children and how to determine if they are above or below average.
