According to Plato’s Republic, it is my belief that justice arises when the moral balance has been reinstated, that the just person is not punished and the unjust person is punished for violating the law. People have to abide by the laws even if they don’t agree with them. I believe justice is considered the right thing to do every time even if people disagree with the outcome because justice puts people in their rightful place which is what’s best among all civilians.
In Book IV of the Republic, Adeimantus questions Socrates how the guardians in the just city can be happy. Socrates claims that the goal is to make the whole city happy rather than a particular category (420b). Socrates declares there shouldn’t be too much wealth nor too much poverty in the city since these initiate social conflict (421d). The just city should be large enough to be taken care of and still be able to stay a firm and united city (423b). In comparison, I believed that justice occurs when the just balance is in session, while Socrates’ relatively agreed to the fact that justice occurs when the three parts of the soul (rational, spiritual, and appetitive) are aligned and explored. Even though I didn’t really go into depth of how to know what right is and Socrates did, I still agree with him when he claims that that people have it in their right mind what the right thing to do is and they have that mindset innately from knowing right from wrong whether it takes days or minutes. I do compare myself to Socrates when he says that there are special measures of justice within the entity, agreeing to the fact that when it comes to justice everybody goes through thinking, understanding the emotions, and when the desire of another human is
