Youth violence is a growing problem in the United States that scares us very much and many people believe that violent video games are to blame. This problem needs to be solved but first we have to see if violent video games can actually cause violence. There are two sides to this opinion on youth violence, the pro side and the con side. The pro side believes that video games cause violence and the con side that believes that believe that they don’t cause violence. The pro side gives a stronger more factual argument than the con side from these next two exerts. I believe that video games do not cause violence because it cannot yet be officially proved. Youth violence has been an growing problem in the county and violent video games are more than likely one of the many contributors to this. “The 2008 study Grand Theft Childhood reported that 60% of middle school boys who played at least one Mature-rated game hit or beat someone up, compared to 39% of boys that did not play Mature-rated games.” This quote explains the extreme effect that violent video games have on our youth. This piece shows how violent video might have an effect on our youth and is strong enough to wow anyone that cares about this problem. Its not hard to see why the “Pro” side has the strong point that violent video games can cause violence. Even though “Pro” side has its strengths its bound to have weaknesses. The “Pro” has its faults like any side would but it still doesn’t make this side wrong. “Violent video games cause players to associate pleasure and happiness with the ability to cause pain to others.” This quote claims shows how video games can bring happiness and pleasure to gamers. This quote shows how video games can affect the emotions of gamers. It also states how it causes the pleasure to be of inflicting pain which is a very negative affect of violent video games. Even “Pro” has it weakness it is still a very strong argument. “Con” argues that video games do not cause violence but is the weaker side of the two, with that given it still has some valid arguments.. “Con” argues that that video games do not cause violence in youth. “The arrest rate for all juvenile violent crimes has declined 49.3%. In this same period, video game sales have more than quadrupled.
