Introduction
Obesity occurs when a person’s weight is far above his/her ideal body weight. The Obesity epidemic has actually become a worldwide problem that has global implications for health and disease. Being obese is no longer just a western problem, people are getting fatter in all parts of the world and obesity rates are rising ,with an estimated 60% men and 50% women are either overweight or obese. Obesity is a complex phenomenon, and used to be more of a western problem. Besides the United States who has been fighting the battle with the bulge for quite a while now ,other regions are also growing fast in the waist such as Latin America, The Middle East and Western and Southern Africa. Fiji, which is where I live is in the top 10 obese countries in the world, it is also one island in the Pacific Islands that struggles with this issue. If these trends continue uncontrolled nearly 60% of the world’s population 3.3 billion people could be overweight or obese by 2030. This Research Report is going to be about how obesity has become a problem not just for western countries, but how it is affecting the whole world, I will give a wide variety of perspectives including global, local and national,I will also look into the implications of obesity in developing countries, urbanization, globalization and its promotion of obesity, the advance in technology but the decline in physical activity and much more. I will explore all plausible causes of this global epidemic and try find resolutions on how it can be solved before it reaches an uncontrollable rate.
