Born on June 26th 1824 in Belfast Ireland, William Thomson was one of many children. He was primarily raised by his father, James Thomson, as his mother died when he was six. James Thomson raised his family in a strict Presbyterian fashion. Although his father was strict and demanding, William mangaed to maitain a close relatioship with his father. James Thomson was the professor of engineering in Belfast and later was appointed to the chair of mathematics at the University of Glasgow. He taught his son mathematics at a very early age and as a result, William Thomson became an accomplished mathematican beyond that of universities. William Thomson enterd Glasgow University at the age of ten. That was not as uncommon as it is today because back then the universities were competing for the best junior pupils. In 1838, when Thomson was 14, he began what people today would consider university work and when he was 15, his essay called An Essay on the Figure of the Earth won him a gold medal from the University of Glasgow. Thomson then went on to publish his first papers at ages 16 and 17. These papers were defending the work of Fourier who was being criticized by british scientists. Following his years at Glasgow, Thomson entered the University of Cambrige in 1841. He graduated in four years with a B.A. honors degree and was second wrangler. Further work in 1845 saw him become first Smith's prizeman and he was elected a fellow of Peterhouse. From there he went to Paris because of his interest in the French approach to mathematics and he wanted to gain practcal experience and competence in experimental work. Following this project, thomson invented the mirror galvanometer which he patented in 1858 as a long distance telegrah reciever. These projects not only led him to a great deal of fame but also a lot of money. Because of the great success he had from his work, Thomson was Knighted by QueenVictoria in 1866. He then retired from Glasgow in 1889 after being a professor for 53 years. In 1890 he became president of the Royal Society and held that position for five years and in 1892 he was created Baron Kelvin of Largs and recieved the Order of Merit in 1902. William Thomson, better know as Lord Kelvin, eventually died at his home December 17th, 1907, in his estates close to Largs, Scotland, and was buried at Wetminster Abbey, London.
William Henry Fox Talbot was born on 11 February 1800 in Melbury, Dorset. He was the only child of the Talbot family. His father William Davenport Talbot died in 1800 when Henry was less than 6 months old. Her mother was confronted with a property which was in a damaged situation and with her mother Henry lived in a succession of homes. When her mother married with Captain Charles Feilding in 1804, they moved to another house where Henry’s two half sisters Caroline Augusta and Henrietta Horatia Maria were born. Henry’s widespread family connections lead him the admission to science and politics societies. Fox Talbot was his family name, but he preferred Henry F. Talbot as shown in the documents signed by him.

After being educated at Trinity College Dublin he moved to Queens University in Dublin where he worked as the Secretary of the Administrative Headquarters of the Queens Colleges. It was then when he produced his most important conceptions and calculations. His particular theory was that electrical charges in atoms are comprised of negatives which he would call electrons. He calculated the magnitude of a particle of electricity, or Stoney Unit which he would later name the electron in one of his papers in the Transactions of the Royal Dublin Society in 1891. Richards received the nobel prize in 1914 for his “accurate determinations of the atomic weight of a large number of chemical elements.” (Source ) He was born January 31st, 1868 in Germantown, PA, USA. William Trost Richards, his father, was a very famous landscape artist at the time and his mother, Anna, won her fame through poetry. Euler was born in Basel, Switzerland where he was destined to be a clergyman. Yet, it was obvious that Euler had a different calling in life. His aptitude for mathematics was evident even in his early life. His propensity for higher learning was so great that he studied with Johann Bernoulli, who was Jakob’s brother, as a young boy. His time with Johann urged his sense of mathematic discovery. Euler attended University of Basel where he earned his Master’s degree while he was still a teenager. While at the school he barely learned any mathematics because the school was basically a poor school. After graduation, he worked as a teacher at Berkeley for only a year. In 1942, he received citizenship for the United States since he was originally born in Canada. Throughout his career, he has worked as a professor in various universities. He taught at places such as Cornell University, University of Chicago, and Stanford University. Two times he was the chairman of the Chemistry Department in 1972 to 1974 and 1978 to 1979. He was also in the National Defense Research Committee while World War II was taking place.
Thomas would begin his education career by being homeschooled at his home. He would continue his career at a school named Annan which happened to be located near a village close by his home. Thomas would participate in grammar activities at that school. Thomas finished out at Annan and proceeded to attend college at the University of Edinburgh. Thomas got his teaching degree in the subject of mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. Thomas began to teach at local schools including a school by the name of Kirkcaldy where he saw one of his long time friends Edward Irving.
Thomson built one of the leading electrical companies of the eighteen hundreds along with fellow high school science professor Edwin Houston. In fact, he was lighting the streets in Kansas City Missouri with his system six months before Thomas Edison opened his first power station in New York. Eventually the two stations and others would be brought together under the same name, General Electric, after the merging of the Thomson-Houston and Edison General electric companies. He was born in Eaglesfield, Cumberland (now know as Cumbria). In school he was so successful that at the age of 12 he became a Teacher. In 1785 he became one of the principles and in 1787 he made a journal that was later made into a book, describing his thoughts on mixtures of gases and how each gas acted independently and the mixtures pressure (which is the same as the gases volume if it had one). Therefore the law of partial pressures was made. It is said that in 1790, Dalton?s aims were to pick up in law or medicine, but he got no encouragement from his family. In 1793 he moved to Manchester where he was appointed Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy at a Dissenting New College. He stayed there until 1799 when he made his own academy.
William Henry Fox Talbot (11 February 1800 – 17 September 1877) was an inventor and photographer who spent his years inventing the salted paper and calotype processes. In Talbot's early days he experienced frustrations with both the camera lucida, and the camera obscura, creating thoughts about how could the picture itself create the image. Talbot began to work on such an idea with his discovery of photogenic drawing or salted paper. This process included wetting a sheet of thin paper with a weak solution of plan table salt, allowing it to dry, then brushing a side of the paper with silver nitrate. This created a very light sensitive chemical, in which the paper would darken in the places it was exposed to light. Finally to finish the drawing

This is probably one of the most influential factors in his work and this is one way that his work was seen by people all over Europe and other parts of the world. Henry Cavendish was born October 10, 1731 in Nice, France. His mother, Lady Anne Grey was the daughter of the first Duke of Kent while his father Lord Charles Cavendish, was second Duke of Devonshire. His ancestry links back to many of the aristocratic families in Great Britain. The chemist/physicist is most accredited for the discovery of hydrogen, the “inflammable air” and measuring the Earth’s density, but he also researched and discovered many other important scientific revolutions.
