ABORTION
Why do young adults have abortions? Are they aware that this action affects not only themselves or the child that is being aborted, but it affects numerous of people witnessing this devastation? Abortion is a major issue in present society and will most certainly be discussed and brought to a conclusion on whether this action should be allowed in the society as being legal or immediately ceased through an enforced law by the courts.
According to the U.S Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, “About 43% of American women will have one (or occasionally more) abortions during their lifetime. Approximately 1.5 million legal abortions are performed in the United States each year” (1). According to the Merriam Webster’s School Dictionary, “Abortion is the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a woman prior to the completion of the full term of pregnancy” (3).
I have chosen this topic because I am a teenager that is surrounded by this issue. I have many family members and close friends that were once in a situation where they were either too young, but so puzzled and confused, that they didn’t know the best decision to make; or they didn’t know whether or not they should keep the child or have an abortion. Most of my family and friends are juveniles; they are children themselves. A majority of them are still enrolled in school and not financially secure; therefore, they are not prepared to take on the role of a parent.
Reducing abortion will benefit society once one obtains complete knowledge of the laws behind abortion, examines the effects of abortion, understands the influences on abortion, and provides solutions to prevent abortion. In concl...

The practice of abortion should be banned in society because it terminates the life of an innocent unborn child, causes long-term emotional effects, as well as major health risks for women who opt for abortion.
As one knows, some unwanted pregnancies could often be harmful and distressing for a woman. Women should have the right over their body to choose to sustain the fetus or not. In the past decades, women did not have their freedom of abortion in many countries of the world. There have always been controversies going on about abortion. Abortion is a voluminous topic today all around the world. Differing viewpoints on abortion are recognized in politics, religion, and throughout the general population. There is a small amount of people who are nonchalant on the subject. Women have abortions for many different reasons and according to certain groups these reasons are either justified or not. Everyone tends to have their own articulated opinion, and many vocalize tenaciously what they believe. Pro-life individuals along with religion are sanguine that abortion is ethically and morally erroneous. Whereas those who are pro-choice say that abortion is inconsequential and the mother’s choice is more important than the fetus. Reasons to not get an abortion include risks involved in receiving an abortion. In some cases death can occur. However, there are other alternatives to abortion. Wade was a supreme court case that allowed women to have an abortion because it was a woman 's right to her own privacy. After this supreme court case, they made restriction on abortion. First, most adolescents are not mature enough to make decisions that will change their lives forever. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius state, “Some older adolescents have the cognitive ability and capacity to reason similarly to an adult. However, neuroimaging studies have shown that the brain undergoes major reorganization during adolescence, particularly in the regions of the brain relating to executive functions” (qtd. in Christian Med.). In other words, the majority of teens lack maturity and wisdom to make life changing decisions (Christian Med.). In most situations, teens are desperate, and they make choices without thinking about the long- term consequences of their actions. If abortion is hard, enough in a grown woman imaging how it must be in a teenager with no one by her side to counsel and guide her. Imaging how confusing would be the mind of a fourteen years old girl going through an abortion without having her parents to tell her that everything will be fine. How can a fourteen years old girl handle that much stress?
Abortion defined is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to viability. Each year in the United States 1.6 million abortions are performed with 91% of them being performed during the first trimester (under 12 weeks of gestation). There are second trimester abortions as well (under 24 weeks of gestation) which occurs in 9% of the accumulative abortions a year in the United States. And about 100 abortions are performed in the third trimester (above 24 weeks gestation) this is approximately .01% of all abortions. 1.5 million U.S. women with unwanted pregnancies will choose abortion each year.
One of the most disputed subjects into day’s society is abortion. Children have been sacrificed by millions of women all across the world. There’s always a powerful urge to vindicate the suffering, emotional pain, and deprivation by the mother and her significant other. Therefore, in any debate, you will run up against an invisible brick wall. Which means even the greatest Knowledge will neglect to influence. When it comes to abortion the best way to tackle the subject is through facts. Some of the wondrous arguments stem from the law, science, and the rights women have to aid the pro-life case opposed to abortion.
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by destruction of a fertilized egg, embryo or fetus before birth, prior to the time when the fetus attains viability, or capacity for life outside the uterus (Encyclopedia, 1995, p.43). Currently almost twenty-five percent of pregnancies in the United States are aborted. About one forth of people who abort are teenagers, fifty-seven percent are younger than 25, and almost eighty percent are unmarried. During the first trimester is when most of the abortions take place. Only about ten percent are performed later in the pregnancy (Slife, 1998, p.329). Abortions go back as far as Ancient Greece where it was used as a type of population control. Then in the Roman Times men had total control over the procedure. “Man could give law-enforced command that his wife have an abortion, or he could punish or divorce his wife for having one without his consent” (Encyclopedia, 1995, p.43).
One of the most controversial issues in this day and age is the stance people take on abortion. The two main positions that people take are either of pro-choice or pro-life; both sides, although polar opposites, tend to refer to both the issue of morality and logical rationale. The pro-life side of the debate believes that abortion is an utterly immoral practice that should be abolished. On the contrary, abortion should remain a legal procedure because it is a reproductive right; its eradication would not only take away the pregnant person’s autonomy, but would also put more children in financially unstable homes and the adoption system, and would cause an increase in potentially fatal, unsafe abortions.
Abortion challenges the civil rights of the mother and the fetus, which she bears and under certain circumstances, abortion may be the most appropriate or suitable action to take. It is acceptable to have an abortion to stabilize and maintain a lifestyle. Abortion is their choice and they will not be stuck with a limitation on their life. One can either have an abortion, keep the child and raise it, or give the child for adoption; nonetheless it is the choice of the woman. It is a woman 's choice to have a baby or not, and if unplanned, she should also have the choice to keep it or to take action to change her situation. Abortion is an extremely controversial issue and one that is continually on the forefront of debates. Those who oppose the idea (Pro-lifers), thinks it is an act of woman playing “God” who live from who dies. Yet, whether an unborn baby constitutes a normal person is questionable; a pregnant woman, on the other hand, has the undeniable right to choose whether she wants to have a child or not. Therefore, the decision to have an abortion is the personal choice and responsibility of the woman, because prohibiting abortion impedes freedom of choice and endangers the physical and mental health of women.
