A friendship is something that everyone wants and desires but what few fail to realize is that there are so many different types of friendships and although they all may be great ones, there’s one that is essential to the soul. Before one can have an ideal friendship, we should have a clear understanding of what a friendship is. As stated in out notes in class, a friendship is a state of mutual affection to one another. That basically means the two of you share similar ideas and or passions that leads into constant surroundings of each other witch then leads to a connection or friendship. The life cycle of making a friend has three key components in the formation of making a friend. The first is proximity, which means being close enough to a person to either keep in touch or just to engage in certain activities together. Next is keeping in touch with the person over and over. Not so much that your making plans with the person but just informing them on daily encounters of life situations whether they are good or bad. Last but definitely not least we have the stage of opportunities which is the phase where you make plans to hang out share feelings and be there for one another. A friendship is a necessity; it's where we keep each other in check. That is also considered to be the "Good Friendship". Nobody wants to live without friends because were social beings. A friendship is essential in order to be self-sufficient which means that all of the needs of a friendship are met. According to Aristotle "Even the person who has everything still needs friends." Friendships can be good for a lot of things. If you’re needing help with a current situation or issue, a friend is there to help you and be there for guidance. No fixed law can be laid down therefore it cannot be said that one obligation at all times and in all circumstances over-rides all others.” Throughout the topics of friendship I learned that a lot of my relationships I consider to be friendships are not all rare. That basically means that over time I will definitely lose a lot of friends in my life. After having a more concise understanding of the different types of friendship, I now kind of agree with Aristotle about the rare type of friendship being the friendship based on virtue. If a person isn't virtuous how can they possibly be of any virtue to me. We need to both be on mutual grounds and want the best for each other so that way throughout the occasional fights and arguments that we may go through, as virtuous friends, we can still be there for each other through the good and bad times.
