Through leadership and dedication companies have struggled to remain as one of the most successful companies to have either remain in the business industry. The term ‘leader’ is a loose word that is well understood by many. There are different perception of the word and different execution to be a leader. Management, conduction, control, authority and administration are all similar words to leadership and its possible role. However, a role of a leader is situational and transitory; Successors adapt to situations, creating and deciding the right route to keep the company running. Various roles in companies is keep its stability and longevity. Departments differ from one another, taking part of their own specialty and being important aspect and structure of the company. Leadership is the main foundation of a company’s value, always innovating and results oriented to create the strategy and vision of the company we see today.

From Webster dictionary: a position as a leader of a group, organization, etc. Definition of leadership can vary from person to person, however the main purpose of leadership is to take action that best fit for the company. As there are different ways to define leadership, leaders’ role are also differentiate depending on situation. Successful companies today started out rough, however through communication, globalization, and leadership they are able to stay alive. With population increasing, companies expand and globalize to obtain resources to meet equilibrium with their demands. Not only will globalization stabilize their company financially, their name will spread across the nation, building stronger relationships with their partners and consumers from different places. Of course, all the decision took place through leadership and a sense of priority for the company. Leadership improves the innovation and product of the company, but leadership is also incorporate with communication, that builds a stronger connection with various departments and partner companies.

According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
Leadership is derived from the Latin word laedere, which roughly translates as “to show the way” and if someone were to look it up in the dictionary, it would come up as “the position of a leader, the ability to lead, and direction.” However, for some this word can be arguable because everyone thinks differently. Leadership or leader itslef can be described or defined as someone promoting good character, a trustworthy person as well as a person who has dedication and takes responsibility for not only him or herself but also takes responsibility for the people surrounding them.
Leadership is not a position but an action that is undertaken by an individual. Leadership is not just about giving orders, yet it is the action of serving others. According to Robert Townsend, “A leader is not an administrator who loves to run others, but someone who carries water for his people so that they can get on with their jobs” (2013). A good leader will support his or hers employees because a leader is not judged on their own actions, but they are judge on the success of those that they support. In the modern era, we look at business leaders in the same way that historians view military commanders or kings of the past.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.

There are lots of definitions and interpretations for the term LEADERSHIP. One is “A relationship through which one person influences the behaviour or actions of other people” (Mullins, L.J. 2002, Management and Organisational Behaviour, 6th Edition, FT Publishing, p904). The Webster Dictionary defines leadership as an office or position, the capacity to lead, the act or an instance of leading (Merriam-Webster, 2011). Leader is defined as; a person who directs a military force or unit, a person who has commanding authority or influence (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The Army defines leadership as the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization. Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions.
