What is nutrition? Why is nutrition important? Nutrition, nourishment, or aliment, is the supply of materials - food - required by organisms and cells to stay alive. In science and human medicine, nutrition is the science or practice of consuming and utilizing foods (MNT, 2014). A nutrient is a source of nourishment, an ingredient in a food, e.g. protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamin, mineral, fiber and water. Macronutrients are nutrients we need in relatively large quantities. Micronutrients are nutrients we need in relatively small quantities (MNT, 2014). The six common substances that are known to be essential for the human body to function properly are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins, minerals, simple sugars and water. Amino acids are organic compounds that contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. Amino acids help with the growth and repair of the body tissue and to make hormones, enzymes, and antibodies. An individual’s daily protein depends on several factors, such as: age, sex, weight, muscular exertion, muscle mass, and health. (Permacology, 2013) A vitamin is an organic compound required by an organism as a vital nutrient in limited amounts. The great differences in their chemical composition, origin in nature, and divergence in nutritive and other physiological functions (LAB-AIDS INC., 2012). Vitamin C is widely distributed in the nature with many plants and all known mammals except primates and the guinea pig (LAB-AIDS INC., 2012). A mineral is an element or chemical compound that is normally crystalline and that has been formed as a result of geological processes” (Nickel, E. H., 1995). Minerals are needed for the formation of hormones, enzymes and other body substances. If the body lacks in minerals, our bodies can be affected. Iron is needed for the formation of hemoglobin and Iodine is needed for the thyroid. Chlorine is needed for the information of the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Minerals are used by the body in the form ions (LAB-AIDS INC.,
Nutrition is the process of consuming food and utilizing the nutrients from the food eaten (“Nutrition.”). It is very important to have enough nutrition for a growing teenager as it helps to develop and strengthen the bones along with growth and development (“Adolescent and School Health.”). Nutrition is very vital for the growing body as it helps prevent certain diseases and helps give the proper development and nourishment (HAGIKALFA). There are multiple nutrients that help maintain development and nutrition such as carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. If there was a lack of nutrition in a growing teenager, the teenager will not be able to have enough nutrition to grow and they will be more prone to sickness and diseases (“Hunger and Malnutrition.”). A malnourished teenager will may end up having muscle weakness, fatigue, dizziness, fragile bones, tooth decay, and much more (“Hunger and Malnutrition.”).
Carbohydrates are more than just fuels for the body and have other uses. Carbohydrates are hydrocarbons containing a carbonyl group and many alcohol groups. Their polymers can complex or they be simple and contain just one repeating monosaccharide, the roles of polymers can be many such as structural, storage or even signalling. (Tymoczko et al, 2012 p. 131)
Nutrition in humans is a product that require to supply the human body to function, nutrients also helps to prevent any disease in human organs.
your body, from cells to tissues and organs, all need the nutrition to function. There’re more
Nutrients are components that are included in various foods which help us to survive and grow in various ways. There are 7 types of nutrients, these are protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, water, fats and fibre. Organic nutrients include carbohydrates, fats, proteins and vitamins, but inorganic chemical compounds like dietary minerals, water and oxygen can also be included into the category of Nutrients. Nutrients are split into 2 groups; Macronutrients and Micronutrients.
Nutrition is important in your daily life. Having good nutrition is key to being healthy. Always eating and drinking with regular exercise is part of being healthy. With a well-balanced diet and regular exercise your health will be excellent.
Nutrition is needed by everybody. It is the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth. The United States Department of Agriculture created a ChooseMyPlate.gov to help individuals choose wisely regarding their diets. Unfortunately, many individuals still do not know how to choose a well-balanced diet and I am guilty of that. Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin or depriving ourselves of the foods that we love. Rather, it is about feeling great, having more energy, improving our outlook, and stabilizing our mood (Healthy Eating). Maintaining a healthy diet and weight can help prevent and avoid certain major or minor health problems. Some
A carbohydrate is an organic molecule made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. It is made in a 1:2:1 ratio. Examples of these are sugars and starches. Sugar is an immediate energy source, so if you needed energy right away you should eat something with a lot of sugar. Starch is a 12-24 hour energy source. This is good to eat the day before you have something. An example is when a team has a pasta party the night before a big game. Carbohydrates can play a structural
Carbohydrates are biomolecules that consist of a chain or ring of carbon atoms attached to hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The simplest formula for carbohydrates is (CH2O)n. Carbohydrates are important to organisms for a variety of reasons. They are used to form the structural components of the cell, aid in energy storage, and serve as intermediary compounds for more complex molecules. Carbohydrates are classified as either monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharides. Both monosaccharides and disaccharides dissolve easily in water. Carbohydrates are produced in plants through the process of photosynthesis and animals obtain these carbohydrates by eating the plants. ("BIO 1510 Laboratory Manual," 2016)
Nutrition is one of the most important factors that influence health. By selecting proper nutrition and properly structured menu you enable your body to get all the necessary nutrients needed for normal functioning. In order to facilitate the selection of food or aid in the selection of food to ensure good health, the so-called food pyramids are formed.
Carbohydrates supply the body with the energy it needs to function. They are found almost exclusively in plant foods, such as fruits, vegetables, peas, and beans. Milk and milk products are the only foods derived from animals that contain a significant amount of carbohydrates.
“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise not too little not too much, we would have food the safest way of health” (Barasi.E.M, 2003). This essay is going to discuss on the important of six essential nutrients in human body. According to PosnerB.M (1998), he define essential nutrients as a nutrients that the body cannot synthesize on its own-or not to an adequate amount and must be provided by the died. Oxford dictionary (2009), also define essential nutrients as are those nutrients that are required by the body and cannot be synthesise in the adequate amount to meet requirement, so must be provided by the diet. Essential nutrients are those found to be essential to human life and optimal function, Williams.M. H (2006).There are six main type of nutrients used to maintain body health. They are carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals and water. They must be in balance for the body to function properly.
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions.
