("Responses to the Problem of Street Racing") Many people are not fully informed about the sport of drag racing so here is a little bit of information. In 1947, Wally Parks, a military tank test-driver for General Motors who served in the army in the South Pacific in World War II, helped organize the Southern California Timing Association and later became its general manager. In 1949, the Southern California Timing Association held the "Speed Week" in Bonneville Salt Flats, this event is what started "drag racing" or racing "against the clock" as some like to say. The first drag strip, the Santa Ana Drags, began running on an airfield in Southern California in 1950 and quickly gained popularity among the Muroc crowd because of its revolutionary computerized speed clocks. When Parks became editor of the monthly enthusiast magazine Hot Rod, he had the forum and the power to form the National Hot Rod Association in 1951 to "create order from chaos" by instituting safety rules and performance standards that helped legitimize the sport. The character of Speedway as a place is temporal and spatial; the street of Friday midnight is radically different from the street of Tuesday morning. Daytime drivers quickly change lanes in an attempt to find the one which will deliver them to their destinations the fastest. Speed and efficacy define the daytime Speedway. As the type of driver changes, so does the driver's reason for being there. The weekday commute is replaced by the weeknight cruise. The drivers also become, as a group, less diverse in terms of age and gender. The majority of cruisers appeared to be teenagers. Also, though I saw many young women, the majority of cruisers were male.
The green flag drops on the first race in The National Dirt Racing Association(NDRA). It doesn’t matter where people go, on some little road in a small town, people will find a small dirt track. The speedways are mostly always located in city areas where a large amount of people live. After a weekend of racing the teams head to the shop to fix the car up again. Despite the fact, that racing had been around since before 1978; whenever Mr. Robert Smawley introduced NDRA, and later Mr. Bill France introduced NASCAR, more people paid attention to the sport of racing.
Barrel racing is categorized under the sport of rodeo and is most likely to be associated with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association and the National Barrel Horse Association. The sport of rodeo also includes bull riding, team roping, and tie down roping and can be mostly associated with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Even though the sport of rodeo in mainly dominated by men, barrel racing is the biggest outlet for women to show their skills in such a male dominated sport.

First, a trip to the track takes longer than a street race, since the closest track in the southwest suburbs of Chicago is an hour away. Going to the track is a hassle versus the get set, ready, go drag race down the street. Simply, street racing is nearby and does not disturb anyone as the contest usually takes place in the dead of the night or in the wee hours of the morning. Secondly, legal racing at a circuit track costs hundreds of dollars. Drag strips are shorter, most commonly a quarter of a mile, than the longer circuit tracks, but the entrance fee is about twenty dollars, which adds up over repeated visits. On the other hand, street racing is free and in 20 seconds, a winner emerges from the duo. Lastly, racing at a track puts enormous stress on a car. By driving fast for extended periods on a track, consider the brakes and tires shot since both will need replacement from tracking over 200 miles per hour. In addition, launching a car from a dead stop at a track versus from a rolling start, as in street racing, is more difficult and can easily ruin the car. Drag balls are often described as a “fraternity like system” where queens formed houses and the “Drag Mother” would be the head of the house. The driver has the legal right to hit the horse for motivation in order to win a position. Network television is broadcasting the acceptance of whipping by showcasing to the viewers how the drivers are permitted to hit the horses. Whipping should be banned in horse racing. In fact, the amendment to rule 1734, involving whipping, was filed with the Secretary of State on October 13, 2016 and will be effective January 1, 2017. According to the California Horse Racing Board, “The Board proposes to amend Rule 1734 to clarify what is acceptable use of a whip by a driver . . . no driver shall use unreasonable force in whipping a horse, nor whip any horse causing welts or breaks in the skin. The proper use of a whip is meant to encourage a horse; the force it takes to cause welts or breaks in the skin is beyond the limit necessary to receive a positive response from the horse and may even produce a negative reaction” (Rules, Regulatiln & Law). In conclusion, Heidi Hurd did a passable job in explaining both parts of the discussion. Based on her article I have come to the conclusion that this is a topic not easily solved. With every argument that the people in favor of hate crime legislation those against are able to oppose it with their own. It is simple not possible to generalize case because although they may be similar they are never the same. Discrimination, hate, and prejudice has always been and will continue to be a topic discussed for many years.
Harley-Davidson became very involved with racing between 1915 and 1925. They have continued to stay involved in racing ever since, but with much less success since they had to start competing with Japanese companies. The Harley-Davidson always placed in the top five at every event, and sometimes all five seats were taken by Harley-Davidsons. These early races were very well organized but usually very dangerous. This scared a majority of the public but the young were entranced by it and sought for sponsorship from major companies such as Harley-Davidson.

The latter of the words finds itself woven into the “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” By Mark Twain. Racism was at some point in time a way of life, and the book does a great job explaining that. The novel also points out some key things in society that are still prevalent today, such as the constant slurs and small, general hate acts. These things coupled with the years of oppression that lived through America breed a slightly still, racist culture.
Frank Choi set out to form an imports only drag race where the track turned away all the muscle cars. His vision became what is now called the Battle of the Imports, one of the most popular drag series and the first of which was started in 1990. Road speed limits are used to regulate the speed of vehicles. Sometimes people try to get somewhere and they go over the speed limit not realizing that they are putting themselves in danger. Now every time I get in a car with a friend or a family member, I make sure that they are going by the speed limit, not texting and paying attention on the road. It is very important that we follow this rules because they are only protecting us, and keeping us safe. If we want to reduce the millions of deaths that are caused by this imprudence every year we need to start being more responsible when we get behind the wheel.
