(What is Autism?). What is the answer to the reason why certain children are affected? Researchers say that epigenetics may be a critical answer to our questions. “Epigenetics is the mechanisms that turn individual genes on and off in a cell” (Hamilton). Our epigenetic genes form together into a cluster during a woman’s pregnancy that forms the baby. When these certain genes switch on and off, this causes some cells to become heart cells while others become brain cells essentially mixing up the organization of the genes. The cause for this mix match may be the result of certain substances the mother exposed the child to during pregnancy. The most vulnerable time for environmental influences to affect the child while in the womb occurs the first couple weeks after conception (Hamilton).
The diagnosis process is a rather complex one that is continuing to grow with new technology. Scientists are discovering that they are able to uncover early evidence of autism by studying the children’s brain waves. This may seem like science fiction but evidence shows that an electroencephalography or otherwise known as an EEG may show how autism affects the brain of that specific child and may even uncover different types of therapies that would be beneficial for that child. With this new technology, doctors may be able to detect early stages of autism before the child is a year old! The benefits of diagnosing a child early could help to improve their later adult life and also to reduce the side effects that come along with autism (Hamilton).
One who is diagnosed with autism may have a vastly different case than someone else who is diagnosed. Each case of the disorder is unique. Asperger Syndrome is sometimes referred to as a type of autism bu...

...eceptors on brain cells known as mGluR5 receptors” (Hamilton). This drug has been extremely successful in mice and is now being tried with humans. Results are being shown to show improvements in as little as one dose. This is a breakthrough modern day medication that may be able to reduce autism to show minimal effects and may be revolutionary in some cases (Hamilton).
Autism is a widely known disorder that often has many different misconceptions. Breakthrough studies and research are being done for the typical person to better understand the condition of this disorder. Autism affects many, but not all who are affected allow for their diagnosis to consume their lives. The functionality of this disorder is one that should not go undocumented or misunderstood. There is more hope out there for autistics to help them to life of a more prosperous and functioning life.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that effects the brains development. It is characterized by affecting communication, cognition and social interaction. The spectrum of the disorders ranges from a mild condition called Asperger’s syndrome to a more severe form, which severely impairer’s development. The Office of Communications and Public Liaison states that the disorder affects one and eighty-eight children, however ASD effects boys more frequently than girls (Office of Communications and Public Liaison, 2013). ASD emerges in all age, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. The significant varied character and severity of the disorder is why ASD is considered a spectrum that poses a broad range of symptoms.
Today, the term“Autism” refers to Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). ASDs are a group of severe developmental disorders that affect social development, and which cause very specific, atypical social behaviors (Hollander, xix). As noted
When Autism was first introduced many people were given LSD or even shock therapy thinking this could treat them, help them in some sort of way. After that was found to not work many people with this disorder were put into institutions and given the bare minimum to exist. People with any sort of metal disorder were treated very poorly as the medical professionals were unaware of any form of treatment or medications. Today there is still no “treatment or cure”. The use of talk therapy, behavioral therapy, and family therapy is known worldwide and used. More people are being educated about this neuro-development and with therapies and interventions can help lesson disruptive behaviors. Early recognition is key to helping people with ASD live a fulfilling
First off, autism is not a form of mental retardation despite what the general public may have you believe. In actuality, autism, which was first described by Kanner (1943) in his study of 11 children with “autistic disturbances of affective contact” (US: American Psychological Ass...
Every year doctors diagnose thousands of adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Due to the growing awareness of autism and recent developments in technology, scientists and doctors can now discover and observe the effects of autism on society, and people. Starting with its discovery, researchers have been able to diagnose people more effectively. Doctors are beginning to discover what causes this disorder, and are currently trying to find ways to prevent and treat it. Many places have opened their doors to people with this disorder, creating autistic friendly environments where people are patient and understanding. Schools have also become accommodating to autistic children and adults. Autism also puts great strain on family and home lives.
Though there is still a lot to learn about ASD, research has increased in order to gain a better understanding into all aspects of Autism.
II. In addition, every autistic child is recognized by particular symptoms and each patient is treated differently
The Autism Spectrum is a mystery. With no cause or cure, researchers have been working hard, to the best of their abilities, to diagnose, treat, and educate those with autism. For centuries, since 1943, with enhanced technology, the view on autism has improved tremendously. New advancements have been developed to diagnose autism earlier, help create more successful treatments, and to help better an educational plan for people with autism.
Autism (or ASD) is a wide-spectrum disorder leading to no two people with ASD will have an exact same symptom.[2] The different variations of ASD symptoms, some people will have mild symptoms while others will have severe ones. Although ASD varies significantly in character and severity, it occurs in all ethnic and socioeconomic groups and affects every age group.[2] For many years ASD was uncommon - happening in just five children out of 10,000. However, since the early 1990s, the rate of autism has increased sharply around the world, as high as 60 per 10,000.[6] In March, 2012, the US federal Centers for Disease Control stated that 1 in 88 children in the US is conducted with ASDs according to estimates from CDC's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) network.[6]...
Autism numbers are on the rise in the U.S and more and more cases of autism are being diagnosed each day. Many parents are unaware that they have a child with autism. Signs of autism are not easily detected so, parents who suspect that they may have a child with developmental delays or a child with autism would have a hard time distinguishing autism from other developmental problems. There are no specific causes or cures for autism but with today’s technology that just might change.
Autism is a genetic disorder that typically appears during the first three years of life. There has been five chromosomes thought to be directly connected to autism. The disorder is a complex developmental disability. Autism is the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain functions, affecting development of the person’s communication and social interaction skills. There are many different ways to classify autism; by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and repetitive behavior. Autism appears to have its roots in very early brain development, however most signs of autism become obvious around two and three years old. According to the U.S Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention about 1 and 68 American children are diagnosed with Autism. Studies have showed that autism is four to five times more common in boys than girls. Which is an estimated 1 out of 42 boys are diagnosed with it compared to an estimated 1 out 189 girls are diagnosed with in the United States. Autism rates. There is many different causes linked to Autism. The two main factors that are mainly discussed are that Autism is genetically inherited and autism is established via environmental factors.
In the 1950’s many psychoanalysts who followed the Freudian belief system, argued that the condition of autism came from the parents withdrawing from the newborn child. The mother’s mostly being blamed for the infant’s condition. The name they choose for these dysfunctional mother’s was “refrigerator mother’s”, due there cold hearted nature. These women were told that they needed to pay more attention to their children or that they were disciplining them too harshly. Still, there are some theories that are being looked at in the recent years. Such as family genetics that is passed down from one parent to the child and there may also be environmental reasons. No one knows exactly how the environment has caused ADS; some theorize that vaccines are to blame for a sudden onset of ADS. Namely the measles vaccine is said to cause autism by damaging the lining of the stomach. Thimerosal is a preservative found in vaccines it contains mercury and has been linked to this disease. It has also been theorized that receiving too many vaccines at one time damages the immune system therefore causing autism. Research studies with family genetics have been done to identify how many genes are associated with ADS. These studies have revealed irregularities in parts of the brain in people suspected of having ADS. Also there has been a link to low levels of serotonin or other neurotransmitters in the brain that are needed to maintain
Autism is most common and most missed diagnosed disease. Autism is considered as a spectrum because each person have their own personal trait and characteristic. “Diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be difficult, since there is no medical test, like blood test, to diagnose the disorders. They look at the child’s behavior to make a diagnosis” (www.cdc.gov). Some parents are in denial with this disease and will not get the early intervention that could help. We need to educate as much as possible about autism. Autism is a lifelong condition and with early detection, intervention and therapy. This can help to increase skills and abilities to help children grow and reduce the symptoms cause by this
