What Is a Rape Crisis Center
Rape Crisis Centers are around to provide comprehensive services to victims of sexual assault and their families, and to conduct sexual assault prevention and education programs for everyone (About, n.d.).
Background/History
Rape crisis centers come into play around the early 1970s. The rape crisis movement as well as the feminist movement played a large role on the rape crisis center coming into play. These centers have helped so many people since they have opened before they were open husbands were able to sexual assault their wives with no consequences. These rape centers started off as volunteer groups to help people in need. They still are helping people in need but all workers are not consider volunteers any longer.
Organizational Structural
Since rape crisis centers are owned by different people and are non-profit there is no overall organizational structural. The most common organizations structural has an executive director who is the overall boss and runs everything. They are important because they make sure everything runs smoothly and have the final say so in everything that happens at the center. If the center is larger enough they may have an assistant executive director which assists the executive director with whatever they need help with but most centers do not have one. Most center have a coordinator of staff which is important because they coordinate the staff they need to run the center. They coordinate all trainings the staff need and make sure they are certified in any area that they need to be certified in. Utilities is a must so this defiantly needs to be put in the budget to insure there is enough money to pay for the utilities otherwise the facility will be closed down. Lastly, emergency money is optional this is used in case the agency wants to have an emergency fund to either support one of the other areas if need or if a client needs it. There is no set amount for it and it will not harm the agency it is helpful if money is needed somewhere.

According to a statement addressing the sexual victimization of college women The Crime and Victimization in America states that, “ One out of four women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus.” This disturbing fact has not minimized throughout the years, instead it is continuing to worsen throughout college campuses. Sexual assault is not an act to be taken lightly. Society must stop pinpointing the individuals who commit these crimes one by one, but rather look at the problem as a whole and begin to understand the main cause of sexual assault and possible methods to reduce these acts of sexual coercion.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is historically referred to as domestic violence. It describes a pattern of coercive and assaultive behavior that may include psychological abuse, progressive isolation, sexual assault, physical injury, stalking, intimidation, deprivation, and reproductive coercion among partners (The Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF), 1999). IPV leads to lifelong consequences such as lasting physical impairment, emotional trauma, chronic health problems, and even death. It is an issue effecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. Eighty-five percent of domestic violence victims are women (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2003). More than one in three women in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2012). Thirty to sixty percent of perpetrators tend to also abuse children in the household (Edelson, 1999). Witnessing violence between parents or caretakers is considered the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next (Break the Cycle, 2006).
Every state has a crime victim compensation program. This program is a government program that reimburses victims of violent crimes. For example, base on a study held at Iowa State University victims of rape was at estimated $450 billion a year. A big portion of the estimate cost goes towards medical bills . For instance checking to see if the victim had contracted any STD because with rape the possibility of contracted and STD is higher then normal. When it comes to rape the pain does not stop just after the assault for many the pain continues until the victim takes a stand and decides not to be the victim any longer. As a matter of fact base on Rape Crisis center of Medina and Summit counties survivors of sexual assault are more likely to abuse alcohol and drugs and sadly attempt to commit suicide. Because of this the government offers counseling for victims. As a result of counseling many victims are able to move on with life and become more then just a victim. The government can also pay for lost of wages for victims who are severely injured. For example victims of aggravated assault which is a whopping $145,379 each assault. Another crime the government pays for is for victims of murder, which tops $17.5 million. This estimate includes the medical expenses as well. For example the medical examination of the body.

It is very important that when and if it happens, the victim needs to report the crime to authorities immediately. People must know the truth about rape and sexual violence and what to do about it.
