Weyerhaeuser
Weyerhaeuser is a company that is based solely on trees. Literally every aspect of the company is based around producing, cutting, studying benefits, or has something to do with trees. The local brand here is magnolia is focused exclusively on the process of seeds, planting of seeds, and relocation of saplings. They have orders placed with them and in turn place orders to get what seed they do not already grow and produce. They turn the seed they get or already have and start a baby tree and resale or plant those trees.
Frederick Weyerhaeuser and 15 partners in January of 1900 started the company. They started by purchasing 900,000 acres of land from Northern Pacific Railway in Washington. At the time that was the largest private purchase of land in the United States. The 15 partners, against Frederick’s suggestion, named the company Weyerhaeuser in his honor. The headquarters was set up in Tacoma Washington.
When Weyerhaeuser first started the company was just processing and harvesting timber. They had nothing more than land and a sawmill. They Cut the timber and let it reproduce and grow on its own. The company began growing rapidly. To keep up with demand the company purchased four World War 1 merchant ships to transfer lumber. This was the beginning of the Weyerhaeuser steamship business. In the mid 1920s Weyerhaeuser also started improving the quality of lumber. They began selling wood by grade and at precise lengths. They complete revolutionized how lumber was processed and sold.

...hat was done to the forest. The catastrophe took roughly 1,000 people almost three years to clean the area and salvage the timber that was possible. The worst part was the soil though. The ground was consistently covered with a foot or more of ash. This made replanting the area seem to be an impossible and unrealistic goal. Weyerhaeuser did just that though. They dug through the ash and hand planted the entire area. Over 18 million little saplings were all planted, one at a time, by hand. The forest not only began growing back, it flourished due to the seven years of research Weyerhaeuser’s Technology Center put into finding out the most effective way to repopulate the area.

When people see new construction or a recently paved road, they often do not realize the sacrifice that was made to create these luxuries. Most people pass some form of construction on the way to their jobs or school every day. This simple fact sparks questions regarding what this area looked like before it was inhabited by humans. Henry Ford was in two companies before making a successful company. The first company he had was first named Cadillac Motor Company then changed into the Ford Motor Company when they went bankrupt once, which was established in August 22, 1902. He went into this company with twenty-eight thousand dollars and eleven men. This company only made around five cars a day. The only way that they made cars was that they would group three guys on one car. During this time, the Great Depression was going on which made one of the toughest times to sell cars. When the company went bankrupt twice, he was not about to give up. When he was forty years old, he created the Ford Motor Company. On one of his projects he made a design for a car that broke the fastest car record. Once the word went around people started to buy his cars. Once the Great Depression ended he started making money. The Roaring Twenties approached and the citizens in Colorado were facing rough times. In 1920, many people such as farm owners, manufacturers, and even miners were having a hard time making a living due to an economic downfall. The farmers especially, where facing the toughest of times. The price of various farm-grown goods like wheat, sugar beets, and even cattle was dropping because their goods were no longer needed by the public. Wheat had dropped in price from $2.02 in 1918 to $0.76 by the time 1921 came around. Sadly, the land that they were using to grow wheat became dry and many farmers had to learn to grow through “dryland farming” which became very popular in the eastern plains from 1910 to 1930 (Hard Times: 1920 - 1940). Apple trees began to die due to the lack of desire for apples, poor land, and decreased prices. Over the course of World War I, the prices of farm goods began to increase slowly. Farmers were not the only one facing this economic hardship while others in big cities were enjoying the Roaring Twenties.

In August 2002, President Bush launched his revolutionary campaign against wildfires known as the Healthy Forest Initiative (HFI). The President’s dynamic plan centers on preventing massive forest fires by thinning the dense undergrowth and brush commonly seen in our national forests. The thinning will occur in priority areas that are in close proximity to homes and watersheds. The Healthy Forest Initiative also aims at developing a more efficient response method to disease and insect infestations that sabotage our forests. Finally, if fully enacted, the Healthy Forest Initiative would provide the loggers with what is known as “goods for services”. In order to promote the progress of his Healthy Forest Initiative, in 2003 President Bush announced the Healthy Forest Restoration Act. In the early part of this century was a time when industry was booming with growth around the installation of major railroads. With this growth came the transatlantic cable, the telegraph, and a whole lot of steel.
