What if I told you that more than 100 million animals are killed each year due to animal testing? What if I told you that these animals are burned, crippled, abused and poisoned on a regular basis? What if I told you that in order to obtain your favorite shampoo, hand sanitizer, lotion, etc. that innocent animals must be tortured? Throughout history animal research and experimentation has played a key role in scientific benefit and discovery. Even I cannot deny the numerous medical breakthroughs that have been founded using animals as test subjects; however, this does not excuse the physical and emotional persecution these poor animals must endure. Animal testing should be illegal. The use of animals in testing facilities is not only unethical, it is unreliable and unnecessary. Thanks to advanced technology there are new alternatives to animal testing rendering the practice nearly superfluous. As consumers we have a tendency to disregard things we do not necessarily want to know. For example, despite popular belief rats and mice are not the only animals used in testing facilities. Dog, cats, primates, and rabbits are routinely victimized in animal testing facilities as well and while acceptance of animal testing is decreasing it is still prevalent in society today. It seems as though consumers, and even previously myself, are content to ignore the horrifying facts about animal testing. I am here to enlighten you on why animal testing should be illegal and what can be done instead to ensure that the products we use are still safe. Think about your favorite shampoo. Your preferred brand that makes your hair silky smooth and smell amazing. What about the amazing perfume/cologne that you love to wear every day. Ho... ... middle of paper ... ... Billman, G. E., P. Mathematical models and computer simulations generate the most unqualified enthusiasm among campaigners. One of their underlying principles is that the biological effects of a chemical will depend on the size, shape, and other characteristics of its molecules, making it possible to predict toxicity without actual testing. The database on which such systems rely will, of course, have come from animal experiments. But once the relation between molecular structure and activity is understood, the toxicity of any new substance can be predicted with a computer instead of measured in a mouse.
Throughout history, animal testing has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefit. However, what many people forget are the great numbers of animals that have suffered serious harm during the process of animal testing. Animal testing is the use of animals in biological, medical, and psychological studies. The development and enhancement of medical research has been based on the testing of animals. There are many questions being asked if animal research is good or not or if the benefit for us is way greater the abuse of animals. Doing tests on animals can help find ways to cure diseases, but testing on them is wrong. Although we want to find cures for diseases to help many people, testing on animals not only brutally hurts them but it also denies the animals the rights they have.
Every year there are tens of millions of animals like rats, dogs, birds, and farm animals that are killed to discover new information on medical discoveries, product testing, and for educational purposes. Many believe animal testing is inhumane because just like humans, animals feel pain as well, but others believe we should not treat animals as moral equals. However, in the recent years there have been new products introduced to decrease the use of animal testing or even possibly completely stopping it.

Everyday, tons of innocent animals lose their life because of animal testing. The animals have no choice. Also, they suffer extremely. Animal testing is bad and should be banned to alleviate the torture of animals, prevent illnesses in the animals, and prove that it doesn’t always work the same on humans as it did on animals.
For decades, mankind has used animals to progress efficiently in scientific research. Animal testing is important for medical science and other beneficial experiments. Many citizens criticize scientists for testing on animals for unnecessary means other than medical research. Many of today’s current vaccines and disease treatments would have been delayed without the use of animals. People across the globe have been saved through organ transplants by persistent research on animals. Many material products and medical accomplishments people take for granted wouldn’t have been possible without animal testing.
Animals are currently being tested all over the world. They are being tested for things such as cosmetics, prescriptions drugs, and used for scientific testing. It is estimated that over 100 million animals are used for testing. Rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, and monkeys are common animals used to test newly developed products. These testing procedures and conditions in which these animal must live are widely scrutinized among animal activists. There are many heated debates on whether or not animals should be used for testing. Current government regulations require that all new production available for human consumption undergo animal testing. New procedures for animal testing are necessary to allow the researchers to meet government regulations and to appease animal activists. Animal research should be ended, it is wrong to assume that animals do not feel pain or anguish as they endure needles, pain, diseases, and death.
In conclusion, animals should not have to go through the harmful and painful practices of animal testing because it’s humane, it violates the rights of animals and there are safer and more reliable alternatives. There are so many different reasons to stop animal testing, all of these things are done to animals in laboratories but if they were to be done outside of these places they would all be considered as crimes, so why should it be legal in laboratories? Animal testing is not only inherently wrong, but promotes unsafe and inhumane business practices that affects the animal’s life. Animal testing should be stopped immediately.
Right now, millions of animals—including mice, rats, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and monkeys—are locked in tight cages in laboratories waiting in fear for the next terrifying and painful lab experiment to be performed on them. (“Animals Used for Experimentation”) Such testing is used for things like biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and general cosmetic testing. (“Animal Experiments: Overview”) Animal testing should not continue in our world being that animals have rights similar to us, rights to live a life free of torture, free of being held against their will in a laboratory. Furthermore, animal testing is inhumane, it violates the lives of all animals used in such testing, it is very expensive for the inaccuracy of the results we obtain from it and it is unreliable as animals differ from humans in many ways. (“Pros and Cons of Animal Testing Facts”)
For decades, using animals in research to examine the safety of products has been a controversial problem. Some people say that testing on animals has brought benefits to human welfare in many ways. Others disagree, believing testing on animals is cruel and inhumane. Both sides have their own opinions, and neither of them is wrong. By doing research on the Internet and in books, I have decided to support testing on animals. Animal testing is more efficient to advance human and animal welfare and has contributed to many cures and treatments for illnesses that could harm both mankind and also animals.
Except for severely limited medical research, animal testing should be outlawed. Animal testing endangers the animal’s lives and may cause serious side affect that last the rest of their lives. Others believe that they should not test medicine on humans because humans’ lives are more precious than that of the animals. They believe that since animals have no rights that they should be used for testing.
When one thinks about animal testing, they usually would think about how much medical breakthroughs animal testing has delivered to society. Other people, however, have different thoughts, and may oppose it, as they believe animal testing is unethical. Animal testing has introduced many medical breakthroughs; rare diseases such as polio, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis would be much more common in modern society if it were not for animal testing (Cook). However, many technological advances are starting to reduce the need to test on innocent animals. Despite its positive history of its many medical discoveries, animal testing should not be tolerated as it is unethical, costly, ignorant, and because many cheaper and more reliable alternatives have been created.
Animal testing is not only a morally offensive behavior but also the darkest side of human nature. The animal suffers, feels pain or becomes happy or sad as per the situations, but people have been subjecting animals for medical, cosmetics, new drug or chemical testing purpose without considering the suffering that they may be experiencing. According to the article, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, “Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics test.” The worst news is that the majorities of these experiments do not contribute to improving human living standards. However the numbers of experimenters who believe there is no curing for possible without doing an experiment in animals. I agree with Ty Johnson in his position paper Animal Testing is Inaccurate, Unbeneficial that Animal testing should be banned for human health and behavioral reasons.
Animals are used in research to develop new medicines and for scientists to test the safety of the medicines. This animal testing is called vivisection. Research is being carried out at universities, medical schools and even in primary and elementary schools as well as in commercial facilities which provide animal experiments to industry. (UK Parliament) In addition, animals are also used in cosmetic testing, toxicology tests, “defense research” and “xenotransplantation”. All around the world, a huge amount of animals are sentenced to life in a laboratory cage and they are obliged to feel loneliness and pain. In addition scientists causing pain, most drugs that pas successfully in animals fail in humans. It is qualified as a bad science. Above all, animals have rights not to be harmed even though the Animal Welfare Act does not provide them even with minimal protection. The law does not find it necessary to use current alternatives to animals, even if they are obtainable. Animal testing should be banned due to animal rights, ethical issues, alternative ways and the unreliability of test results in humans.
