Walt Disney—American Dream Achiever

Dream come true, profound influence, persistent efforts, and the success after the setback; those elements compose the definition of the American Dream. Walt Disney undoubtedly was a successful American Dream achiever. He and his brother co-founded Walt Disney Productions, which became one of the best-known motion-picture production companies in the world. He created Mickey Mouse who turned into one of the most famous cartoon characters in animation history(“Walt Elias Disney”). Walt Disney had not stopped yet, besides an innovative animator, he was also a dream creator. He founded theme parks Disneyland and Walt Disney World, bestowed lives to those lovely Disney characters, also a paradise to kids for fun, and made his childhood’s dream come true(Miller). He was one of 100 most influential Americans in history, and still motivates people to chase their dreams today.

Walt Disney was born in Chicago, IL on December 5, 1901(“Walt Elias Disney”). In 1906, his family moved to Missouri for farming business, and Walt first learned to draw on the farm(Miller). He also sold those paintings to his neighbors and family friends for pocket money(“Walt Elias Disney”). In 1917, his family moved back to Chicago, Walt took drawing and photography classes in his high school, and created cartoon figures for his school’s yearbook. At the same time, Walt was taking courses in Chicago Art Institute after school at night(Gabler). When he was sixteen, Walt tried to enlist in the army, but was rejected for being underage. Instead, he joined the American Ambulance Corps, and worked in France until WWI ended(Miller). When Walt came back U.S., he received his first job at a commercial art studio in Kansas City. In one word, Walt Disney was already beyond an animator, he built Disney as an enterprise, as a Magic Kingdom. And he was also a dream creator, and a true American Dream Achiever. Walt Disney, a magnificent example of American Dream.
