Vladimir Kush was born in Moscow, Russia in 1965. Growing up in the city, Kush really wanted to leave its dull atmosphere to explore the world so he dreamed of distant places to entertain himself. At 4 years old, he began drawing and painting with great skill. At 7, Kush attended art school and his talent rapidly grew. 5 years later, Vladimir started to paint using different styles. This helped him to develop his creative style of what he now calls “metaphorical realism” with much symbolism. Kush was so focussed in art that in high school he went to school in the day but studied painting and sculpturing at night! When Kush was 17 years old he went to the Surikov Moscow Art Institute where he got most of his education in art. Shortly after this, Kush was forced to join the Soviet Army. In most of his military service, Kush painted murals and portraits of generals. After his military service, Vladimir studied more art and earned money by sketching portraits of people on the streets of Moscow but he still wanted to leave Russia and explore the world.
In 1990, Kush sold the majority of his paintings in an art show in Cohburg, Germany, and then flew to Los Angeles. But Vladimir could not find a place or art shop in here to display his artwork and only painted in a small home garage. But with his paintings, Kush earned enough money to go to Maui, Hawaii. That’s when Kush’s real success as an artist began. In 1993, a French dealer recognized how interesting Kush’s art was. He then planned an exhibition in Hong Kong, China, so that these people could see Kush’s unique paintings. In the original copy, the shade of the grass in the centre of all the cut-down trees is a nice dark green, making the forest grass appear to look alive have nothing wrong with it even though many several trees have been cut down. In the reproduction, the grass colour was changed to a browner shade to make the grass seem dead. The colour correction with the giclee print made the painting seem sadder because it shows more destruction to the forest from the logging. This helps to emphasize the message of bad outcomes of logging forests which Kush tries to show in Redwood Cutting.
Vladimir Kush is an excellent artist that is becoming more and more popular around the world because of his creativity in his artwork. He plans to open more exhibitions to display his paintings and sculptors and one day I would like to visit one of these!
Through her masterful usage of color and lighting, painter Alexis Rockman seeks to display the overwhelming beauty of the natural world and its inhabitants in her painting Kapok Tree. With a color scheme of bright colors that pops out and grab the attention of the viewer and an emphasis on lighting that divides the painting into two separate scenes, Rockman’s Kapok Tree delivers its timeless message with ease.
At the left-bottom corner of the painting, the viewer is presented with a rugged-orangish cliff and on top of it, two parallel dark green trees extending towards the sky. This section of the painting is mostly shadowed in darkness since the cliff is high, and the light is emanating from the background. A waterfall, seen originating from the far distant mountains, makes its way down into a patch of lime-green pasture, then fuses into a white lake, and finally becomes anew, a chaotic waterfall(rocks interfere its smooth passage), separating the latter cliff with a more distant cliff in the center. At the immediate bottom-center of the foreground appears a flat land which runs from the center and slowly ascends into a cliff as it travels to the right. Green bushes, rough orange rocks, and pine trees are scattered throughout this piece of land. Since this section of the painting is at a lower level as opposed to the left cliff, the light is more evidently being exposed around the edges of the land, rocks, and trees. Although the atmosphere of the landscape is a chilly one, highlights of a warm light make this scene seem to take place around the time of spring.

The book I chose to do my book report on is "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich". The book is about the most forceful indictments of political oppression in the Stalin era Soviet Union. It is a captiving story about the life in a Siberian labor camp, related to the point of view of Ivan Denisovich, a prisoner. It takes place in a span of one day, "from dawn till dusk" (pg. 111) . This book also describes his struggles and emotional stress that he must going through.
Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous and well-documented artists of the twentieth century. Picasso, unlike most painters, is even more special because he did not confine himself to canvas, but also produced sculpture, poetry, and ceramics in profusion. Although much is known about this genius, there is still a lust after more knowledge concerning Picasso, his life and the creative forces that motivated him. This information can be obtained only through a careful study of the events that played out during his lifetime and the ways in which they manifested themselves in his creations (Penrose).
There is a lot of repetition of the vertical lines of the forest in the background of the painting, these vertical lines draw the eye up into the clouds and the sky. These repeated vertical lines contrast harshly with a horizontal line that divides the canvas almost exactly in half. There is, however, a slight opposition to this intense realism. It can be seen in Wood’s representation of foliage. The trees that appear in the upper left corner look like large green lollipops peeking over the roof of the house. The viewer knows that trees do not naturally look like that. Wood has depicted them as stylized and modern, similar to the trees seen is Seurat’s Sunday Afternoon on the island of La Grand Jatte. After viewing other works by Wood, it is clear that he has adopted this representation for the trees in many of his paintings.

The article Artists Mythologies and Media Genius, Madness and Art History (1980) by Griselda Pollock is a forty page essay where Pollock (1980), argues and explains her views on the crucial question, "how art history works" (Pollock, 1980, p.57). She emphasizes that there should be changes to the practice of art history and uses Van Gogh as a major example in her study. Her thesis is to prove that the meaning behind artworks should not be restricted only to the artist who creates it, but also to realize what kind of economical, financial, social situation the artist may have been in to influence the subject that is used. (Pollock, 1980, pg. 57) She explains her views through this thesis and further develops this idea by engaging in scholarly debates with art historians and researcher, and objecting to how they claim there is a general state of how art is read. She structures her paragraphs in ways that allows her to present different kinds of evidences from a variety sources while using a formal yet persuasive tone of voice to get her point across to the reader.

Since my first encounter with Kandinsky's art I was amazed by their complexity and always wondered about the creative and intellectual mind, which was responsible for them. The few books I managed to find on Kandinsky were extremely useful as they outlined his entire career and had a substantial amount of illustrations. There were also a number of websites available on the Internet, which contained critiques from other art historians, critics and fellow artists from around the world. But there is not a large number of his paintings available in Britain therefore could only experience his art at first hand on three occasions. If I were to attempt this coursework again I would perhaps try to widen my research by travelling outside of the U.K. and experiencing at first hand some of Kandinsky's more grand pieces, in order to fully feel their effects.

Frida Kahlo and Vincent van Gogh, two wildly popular artists, have left behind artwork, that to this day, influences and fascinates people around the world. The artist of the Surrealist movement strives to take everyday objects or thoughts and turn them into dream-like, unrealistic paintings. Salvador Dali and Vladimir Kush are two great Surrealist painters. Dali and Kush created many different paintings, but they did create similar paintings such as: Dali’s The Ship with Butterfly Sails and Kush’s Fauna in La Mancha. The best of the two surrealist paintings has yet to be named.
