If the can’t keep their grades up, then they should not be able to play sports. Why give high school athletes the privilege to play sports when they are not working hard in school. Most importantly, a certain GPA will show colleges how hard you really work.
About 742 BCE the most known prophet, Isaiah comes on the scene. Now this far out guy walks the streets naked for three years telling the King not to ally with the Assyrians. He also speaks of how Jerusalem will be saved from the Assyrians. The Assyrians don’t invade Jerusalem but the Northern Kingdom is destroyed just as Amos predicted fifty years earlier.
Roy Mottahedeh is a professor of Islamic history at Harvard University. He has written widely in the history of Islam and religion. The Mantle of the Prophet is one of the books that Mottahedeh wrote. In this book, Mottahedeh covers different aspects that include Islamic faith, Iranian city of Qom, traditions derived from the history of Iran, political change in Iran and secular Islamic learning among other issues. Ali Hashemi and Parviz studied together in the same elementary school courtyard. However, each of them took different turns. This paper is a review of The Mantle of the Prophet by Roy Mottahedeh. It will discuss the similarities and differences of the ideologies of Hashemi and Parviz and their oppositions to the Shah. It will also discuss their social backgrounds and cultural influences on their outlook of the world.

Even though the prophets were met with hostility and rebuking from the people, due to the evil in peoples hearts, they continued to speak the words of God. The Prophets knew they would face danger because of the words they spoke, but they also knew the words of God had to be heard. The prophets were an important tool in redirecting the people which makes their role in the history of Israel and Judah one of the most important roles.
For instance, Leviticus 25:35 states, “’if your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you” (ESV). As a Christian, a person is called to help those who are struggling, and speaks of giving everything a person has to help those around him or her. According to the Jacob Riis film, citizens turned a blind eye to all those suffering, without a home or food. It also states in Proverbs 22:2, “…the rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the maker of them all” (ESV). God created everyone on the Earth, and did not create one group to feel superior over another. The last passage that represents the other half is Proverbs 28:6, “ Better is poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways” (ESV). A man can be as poor as can be, but wealth does not make you better in the eyes of God.
Have you ever thought that you weren’t prepared enough for a test? What would happen from there? Well, you’d probably fail. To you this may just be one bad grade in the book, but for many student athletes this means losing their spot on the sports team. Many adults have not realized how counterproductive the ‘No Pass No Play’ rule is. It takes away the chance of learning lessons that can not be achieved in the classroom, pushes kids to cheat, and even makes some kids feel bad about themselves, but that’s just the start of it. After viewing the statistics, many people have realized that kids should not be required to have passing grades to be able to participate in school sports because it prevents stress, keeps students on the right track,
Around the country, college athletic programs are pushing their athletes more and more every day. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is an association set up to regulate the athletic programs of colleges in the United States and Canada such as eligibility, sportsmanship, and play. Due to NCAA rules, the “student” comes first in “student athlete.” This means that in order to be a full time student, 12 credit hours a semester are required, and in order to compete in athletics, students must maintain a core GPA of 2.3 or higher. It may seems easy right now but throw in lifting, games and practices, along with team meetings, and you’ve got yourself a full time job on the side.
A coach could give a student a bad grade for not being able to do a certain number of push ups or being able to run for a certain amount of time. Not all students are star athletes and they should not be penalized for this. It is not fair for a child to be penalized with a score for the way their body is or their capabilities with it. If an intelligent, hard-working student’s GPA is lowered significantly because they are not able to keep up in P.E., how is this fair? This student worked hard to get As in English and math class, yet is doing poorly in gym because he is not athletically inclined.
A student is not allowed to play at his game if he is not passing all of his classes. Although, even if the student is passing their gpa could be suffering. If a student spent less time at practice he would have more time to study, do homework, and make sure he is prepared for all of his classes. Then, not only would the student be passing his classes, but he would be more likely to get higher grades. Schools should not have interscholastic sports for this reason.
In the Bible, Old and New Testament, the word “prophecy” is discussed. Prophecy is defined as “a statement that something will happen in the future; the inspired declaration of divine will and purpose” (http://www.merriam-webster.com). Prophecy was used to predict the future or what is forthcoming to the people of God. The Prophets of the Old Testament were spokespersons of God and they were selected to foretell the word of God. The prophecies were used to predict the future and to give warning to the people of Israel. Many believe these prophecies have a great influence on the New Testament. “Prophets occupy a unique place in Israel’s future traditions and they contributed to one third of the Old Testament” (Varughese, A., 2003, p.284). The utterance of these Prophets helped shaped the stories of the New Testament.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8 NIV) At the time of Amos the poor were being oppressed by the wealthy, and God used Amos to scold Israel for their lack of justice, towards the poor. “Therefore because you trample on the poor and take from them levies of grain, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not live in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine. “ (Amos 5:11) According to Hindson and Yates “at a social level Israel’s accumulation of wealth led to a wide disparity between the upper and lower class, and a climate of injustice prevailed as the power of the rich began to take advantage of the poor.” (p.370) Justice was something of utmost importance to God; he created all people to be treated fairly. To exploit the poor and to treat them unjustly was something God was not going to allow the wealthy and powerful to
...es are poor should not be able to play their sport. The NCAA understands this and implemented a rule that states student athletes must maintain a 2.3 grade point average or they will not be eligible for athletics. This is a good start on the path to helping student athletes learn to prioritize academic over athletics. However, in the future the NCAA could raise the minimum required grade point average to a 2.5 or even higher. Some colleges in our country need to do a better job of enforcing these rules. There have been cases reported in which colleges kept their student athletes eligible even when they were struggling academically. This is not acceptable and colleges should not hold back from punishing student athletes who aren’t succeeding in their academics.
Let us start with this statement: I believe that new preachers and new people to the Christian Faith try hard to avoid the Old Testament. If they do, they only look at one section and struggle to connect all the pieces together. One of the issues that makes people uncomfortable is the prophets. First, there is a definite volume of them, and then they are divided into “major” and “minor.” I think at the core of our hearts, we are trying to understand the difference among the different biblical prophets.
